Training by strongman Jirka Vytiska - Additional exercises #6

Supplementary / basic exercises
Forstrongmen to be able to do this sport, probably the most important thing is the technique of the disciplines. I have already listed a few disciplines here, including possible workouts. But today we will focus on "supplementary exercises". What if these mere "complementary exercises" are more important than training the separate disciplines? Or are they on the same level? Today we will talk about the basic exercises and their importance for a strongman.
The exercises I'm going to talk about are the plank, squat, deadlifts, shoulder presses, overhead presses and bench presses.
Plank
As far as the plank goes, think of it as an exercise for a strong and powerful midsection, which you really need as a strongman about 50 times more than a normal mortal. You just can't do it without it.
I have to admit though, there's no such thing as a plank and people have no idea what it actually looks like to make it work.
Shoulder presses
So don't really worry here. In my opinion, it's terribly important to practice this exercise standing, sitting, with an axle, one-armed, log, trying to lift barrels, blocks, rocks... You never know what you're gonna get at a competition.
Bench press
What to say. It is the most comprehensive exercise for the entire upper body. And you can try it with a log benchpress.
Lunge Bench Press
Next, we have the lunges. I know it's obvious to everyone, but again, for the Strongman - try it with a trap bar. It's unique for lifting a log off the ground!
Squat and deadlift
These are exercises that I don't need to elaborate on too much. Just remember that there are more than one type of squat and it's important to practice the front squat as well, and for the deadlift, don't forget to do the exercise with a trap bar. After all, we're carrying suitcases or lifting a car deadlift.
Take Eddie Hall or Hafthor for example, what kind of rackets they lift for squat or deadlift and then what kind of performances they put on when they combine that with strongman disciplines.
Then the disciplines will be added before the season. When youcombine strongman disciplines and basic exercises, it's great training and preparation for competitions.
Everything I've written here is how I see it. And I have always practiced each of these exercises at least once a week. If there was a weakness somewhere, I did it twice. And the plank, every workout.
May strength follow you.
