Young barley

The source of young barley, often referred to as green barley, is immature barley plants. These are harvested when they have only green shoots that have grown to a height of about 15 to 20 cm. This means that it is harvested before the seeds are formed. It is at this stage that the plant contains the highest concentration of micronutrients.

Young barley is available in various forms, most commonly in tablet or powder form. While young barley tablets are a very convenient way of taking it, the powder offers a high variability. It can be mixed, for example, in water, juice, vegetable juice or added to yoghurts and smoothie drinks.

In our assortment you can also find young barley powder in organic quality, which comes from organic farming.

Young barley and chlorella

Young barley is one of the so-called green foods. This group includes in particular certain types of grasses, freshwater algae and cyanobacteria, which are characterised by their high content of health-promoting substances.

A typical representative of green foods is, for example, the popular freshwater algae chlorella, which has a similar composition and effects to young barley. They are often used together for maximum effect, as they complement each other.

Health benefits of young barley

Green young barley is a rich source of a range of valuable micronutrients including vitamins and minerals. In particular, it contains flavonoids, phenolic acids, folic acid, chlorophyll, vitamins A and C, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus.

Its composition acts as an effective antioxidant, contributing to the neutralisation of harmful free radicals and protecting the body from oxidative stress. In addition, it provides the body with a wide range of important substances.

Fibre is also abundant in young barley. It is an integral part of a weight loss diet and also supports detox or cleansing of the body. Among other things, it helps to maintain a healthy intestinal microflora, contributes to a feeling of satiety and prevents overeating.

Young barley: Health benefits in a nutshell

  • Acts as an antioxidant
  • Stimulates the body thanks to its vitamin and mineral content from a natural source
  • Positively influences the overall condition of the body

Usage and dosage of young barley

For green foods, it is usual to start with a lower dose, which is gradually increased, up to 5 to 10 grams in the case of young barley, divided into two daily doses. It is recommended to consume young barley on an empty stomach and at least 30 minutes before the next meal.

Young barley sprouts are gluten-free and therefore usually well tolerated by coeliacs.

Green foods should be stored in a dark, dry place.

Side effects of young barley

No serious side effects have been reported so far with young barley and it is considered a safe green food at normal dosage. Nevertheless, it should be avoided by some groups of people. Young barley is not suitable for blood clotting disorders, inflammation of the deep venous system and inflammation of the digestive tract, acute pulmonary embolism and autoimmune disease.

The use of young barley during pregnancy and breastfeeding should also be consulted with a doctor.
