New World Record by Thor Björnsson - Deadlift 501kg

2.5.2020 will go down in history as the day when a new world record in deadlift was set. The record has been held since 2016 by English strongman Eddie Hall with a 500kg performance. However, there has long been speculation as to whether challenger Bjornsson can break this record and whether an attempt to break the record, which will take place in his home gym, can be a valid and worthy competition feat.

It should be added that world records have so far only ever been broken at official competitions. At the same time Thor wanted to break this record at a valid competition (World Ultimate Strongman Bahrain), unfortunately these were cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

Thor had no choice but to plan an attempt to break the record in his home gym. D-Day - 2.5.2020 in the presence of an official referee and a live broadcast, Thor attempted to set a new world record with a 501kg deadlift.

Did he do it? Of course he did! He lifted the barbell quite easily on his third attempt, which was "only" 1kg more than Eddie's 2016 attempt. We have no choice but to congratulate Thor and it's just a shame he didn't attempt a higher performance, as 501kg didn't look too hard in his performance.
