This year's Iceland's Strongest Man was very prestigious for Björnsson. In what way, you ask? If Thor had won this race, he would have won his tenth title.

And in what disciplines were the races? There were six disciplines divided into two days. On Saturday, August 8, the strongmen had farmers walk, bag over bar and deadlift for reps on the agenda. Thor dominated in all three events, taking first place after the first day.

On Sunday, the strongmen competed in the following events: hand over hand, pressing medley and the final husafellshellan. Just like on the previous day, Björnsson shone in all disciplines and thus, after two days, he reached the final first place at Iceland's Strongest Man 2020. Most fans of Strongman sport suspected that, barring some fluke, nothing would stop Thor Björnsson from winning his tenth title.

However, what was truly unexpected and unthinkable for many fans happened next. At the age of 31, Thor announced the end of his strongman career.

"Iceland's strongest man for the tenth time in a row. 6 disciplines, 6 victories. Great way to end my strongman career. Just starting another journey and I'm excited. It was a great time in the sport of strongman, but I decided to take a long break. I may never come back, but never say never. I'm 31 years old and I might come back in a few years if my heart desires. Right now my heart is telling me I need to be healthy for may family and do the best for them."

We have no choice but to pay tribute to this great athlete and wish him well in his new journey. Strongman has definitely pushed the sport in the right direction and helped bring it into people's consciousness. After all, there are 3.3 million fans following this strongman at the moment... Hats off Thor, you're the man!
