Arnold Schwarzenegger warns, "This could be extremely dangerous!"
Bodybuilding icon and Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger recently shared important insights on weight loss and health in his newsletter. He warned of the risks associated with extreme calorie restriction and stressed that although a calorie deficit is crucial for fat loss, there is a "tipping point" where it can become harmful to the body.

Schwarzenegger relies on new research that points to the negative effects of drastically reducing calorie intake. He explains that when the body is exposed to prolonged and significant energy deprivation, it begins to compromise. It will limit functions such as immune system defenses and tissue regeneration to focus on survival.
The consequence can be weakened immunity, increased risk of injury and poor recovery after training. In extreme cases, there is also a higher risk of infections, a decrease in bone density and potential cognitive impairment.
However, Schwarzenegger stresses that calorie restriction alone is not bad. If done in a controlled manner, with adequate protein and vitamin intake and an emphasis on recovery, it can be an effective tool for fat reduction. However, he cautions against extreme approaches.
It does not recommend diets with an intake below 1,200 calories per day without medical supervision and urges caution, especially for those over 40 and those recovering from injury. Arnold's main message is that the key to success is consistency and sustainability, not strict and punishing diets.
