How to start preparing for bikini fitness competitions?
One of the very common questions I get from ladies who train and have racing ambitions. Both on the internet and on social media it is possible to read and study various articles or instagram posts directly from professional female racers. And that's where I would start.
What woman wouldn't love to look at another woman's athletic, worked out body that is an inspiration to her and moreover, is realistically part of the sport we so admire. Naturally, it's often through easily obtained information and the opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives of professional female racers that ideas towards fitness competitions come to mind. It's undoubtedly great to have a goal in front of us and to work that much harder to reach our best so that we can capitalize on the hard work (not just) from the gym on the competition stage. The question remains how to proceed during the competition preparation, what to look out for, which category is really the right one for us, etc.

If someone really firmly decides that his steps will lead to the competition boards, it is first important to find out everything you need to know about the category in which you want to compete, but also to get as much information as possible about how the competition preparation takes place, what the pre-competition diet really involves, how much time you need to sacrifice for the preparation and whether you have enough money. For me, these are the basic points that are good to be aware of. Then comes the question of whether one is willing to sacrifice much in preparation, whether in terms of time, finances (which won't come back) or perhaps a family birthday party with a steak and salad.
This is what preparation should be about - being able to sacrifice the maximum for the maximum possible result. Quite likely most of the normal things/activities will go by the wayside, ridiculous though it may seem, I know. But only after the athlete has gone through the pre-race preparation and diet can he/she judge. Only then will they understand that it's all about priorities. You get back exactly what you sacrifice. No one will ask you how hard you had it, what time you get up for work, how physically demanding your job is or if you had to babysit your sister sometimes instead of training.
Someone may have better conditions than the other, but on stage you are equal. You'll be standing there, presenting your form, and it will be your only real weapon at that moment (along with your overall presentation and other details). The idea of this is that the result of your hard work and consistency is visible on the stage, and I don't mean medals exactly...
Find a coache! Many ladies decide to prepare for races without the help of a coach. I don't want to talk anyone out of this decision, but I personally wouldn't go into training alone, especially not for the first time. Not only will a good coach introduce you to the world of competitions, but most importantly, he/she will help you set up both your training and eating plan as efficiently as possible so that your form is as good as possible. Moreover, at the end of your training it is very important to have someone next to you who can objectively evaluate, praise and criticize your form. You will not be alone in your preparation.

Even though it may not seem like it and fitness is associated with a relaxed community of people who have similar goals, you may very well feel alone in your race preparation. Your circle of "friends" may narrow (not everyone will understand and support your racing ambitions, your priorities will diverge), not everyone will support your goals. A coach should be there for you, both in terms of training and as a friend you can talk to about anything. This is also why it's very important not to take the first coach you see. You and the coach both need to sit down humanly as well.
To be able to prepare for races and to show really good form, the mindset of the athlete has to meet certain conditions. That definitely includes prioritizing. Are you willing to sacrifice your time to succeed? I don't mean the time spent in the gym or the daily food preparation - that's a given. If you want to be really good, your focus has to be in the right direction. That's the only way you'll make it to the finish line a winner. Always keep everything the way you're meant to, never skip a workout or cardio, don't cheat on your diet. Consistency, patience, willpower and discipline are the only things that separate you from being the best.
