"Don't be afraid to start doing something with yourself!" Describes his transformation Adam, who lost 42kg

Author Adam Hudák

How I got started

Hi, my name is Adam and I would like to give you the courage to start doing something about yourself, even if you are obese, because it is never too late to change your life for the better.

I exercised for about 5 years from the age of 15, and then neglected it all for stupid reasons. First it was skipping one workout, then another, with the intention of catching up in the next workout, and so it went on until my catching up took another 7 years. Then, to put it politely, I gorged myself to a weight of 130.6 kg and 46 kg of fat. In early November 2022, I woke up and looked at myself in the mirror. I was sick of myself and told myself that I was really too obese and I should change all that. From a friend I got in touch with a personal trainer , Jaromir Prášek, who works at Sport Studio Prima in Karlovy Vary.

The first dropped kilos

For about 14 days, I gathered the courage to write to him to see if I could do it, if he would help me and not fire me. Finally I wrote to him and every minute I was looking to see if he had read it and what he would probably reply. It was evening and hooray, I got a reply, "Come in for your first measurement and we'll see what happens to you." I felt terribly embarrassed... Is this how fat I'm supposed to get in the gym? And to see a trainer? I mean, everybody's gonna laugh and look at me... But the opposite was true. No one looked at me strangely.

I recommend everyone who is starting again or even wants to start at all to find a really good trainer with experience, because nowadays every second person is doing it, but you need not only a trainer, but also a person who will lead you step by step to your goal not only physically, but also mentally and mentally. At our first meeting I got measured and the very first check-up session was about how my body and motor function was. I told Jara that I wanted to lose weight and look good and to be tough on me, that I could take anything.

Within a week I got my first diet plan and within a week we put together my first exercise plan. It involved carb waves (no telling information to me at the time, I just stuck to what I was given). I stuck to this diet for about 3-4 months, where I had to eat little and at the same time exert high activity. So I experienced extreme shock, hunger, fatigue and overall a new regime. I did 4x a week gym + cardio after workouts and then 3x a week pure cardio for 60 minutes.

On top of that, I was working in food service and working 13 hour shifts. So the beginnings were terribly hard, I thought I was going to give up... Cardio, I was happy to even breathe and get the workout done, but it started to break very quickly. After all of my failed attempts, thinking I was eating healthy and not moving, something started to change, not only the quick number on the scale, but also the physical fitness started to improve week by week and I knew I had to make it work because I didn't want to be a fat dad who couldn't handle the pace of my kids.

First charging phase

I worked really hard, working out 7 days a week, without breaks, almost the whole 365 days of the year. Woke up at 5:45am every day for breakfast, dropped my daughter off at daycare, immediately went to practice at 7am and went to work at 9am for a 13 hour shift. After 4 months of a steady regimen, I weighed about 98 kg. The fatigue was severe, I would be lying if I said it wasn't. Moods? Yeah, hell, I was always hungry, I was even angry with the people around me, but I managed everything with the help of my trainer and my family. At 98 kg, there was a change of food. I finally got more carbs and the ability to make my own food. At 92kg we started the first volume phase

Thanks to Jara I learned to understand diet, macronutrients, proper exercise and thanks to him I became a de facto independent unit. I only get instructions in macronutrients and training plans and from time to time a check on how I'm doing, what I'm doing and not doing wrong. Every pound I lost, every inch I shrunk, made me extremely happy and gave me the strength and motivation to keep going. Recently Jarda asked me where I want to take it next, how about a competition? His mocking response still haunts my thoughts to this day, "No, your mom." And I said to myself, "I'll give it a go, we'll make a project out of an obese fat guy - a contestant and wipe everyone's eyes."

I keep going and going!

So I got a new impetus to continue and not to give up. Suddenly the food became more strict and the workouts harder (I got to a beautiful 92 kg). Next was the first volume, I had been waiting for this word for a really long time. You say to yourself, volume and obese person, it probably doesn't make sense, just like I did, but my body wanted a rest after the diet and I had to gain some muscle to gradually fill the skin that was left. Suddenly, the goal of losing weight became a path to competition ambitions, with my coach Jaromír Prášek still guiding me in my journey. After the longer volume (it really makes a big difference to eat healthy food versus junk food) came another diet, which, in terms of performance, was probably the worst part of the whole workout for me.

My body stopped losing weight, some kind of breakthrough came, and I got a change in training: 4x a week cardio for 90 minutes (really cleansing :D) and 3x a week HIIT full body training. I'll just point out that I didn't change my work and family routine. Everything has stayed the same, plus those workouts, so really don't look for excuses like "I can't do it, I go to work", "I can't do it, I'm hungry then", "I'll go tomorrow " - none of that is true until you take the first step yourself in your head, not even Jesus himself can help you. It is only you yourself who determines success, and your coach who guides you in the right direction.

My journey doesn't end and I hope that in 2024 we can get in shape so that maybe next year I can already be at my first competition and then I can say, " Yeah, my journey is becoming a success", but you can never say that in this sport because there is always room for improvement. I enjoy it so much, from waking up in the morning to training and preparing the food in the boxes.

In closing, I'd probably give each of you some advice on what has helped me:

  1. Find determination and set a smaller goal.
  2. Find a good trainer.
  3. Stick to what your coach sets you.
  4. Start treating exercise and food as friends and a part of you, not an obligation.
  5. Hang in there with the hunger, the hard work, because sooner or later you will meet your goal.
  6. Don't give up, you've got as much going for you as I did for that start!
  7. Don't worry, no one is looking at you in the gym, no one is laughing at you, everyone is there for the same reason as you - to get better.

Thank you to everyone who read this article, and fingers crossed, your Adam!
