Redheaded beauty - 1st winner of Czech Girl Wars Alena
In the last article from the Czech Wars, we introduced the very first girls' duel Alena Kosnarova vs Karolína Machová, so today we bring an interview with the winner of the duel.
Alena Kosnarova, an instructor from North Bohemia with a distinctive look, but with competition and lifting in her blood. Her brothers Pavel Košnar and Martin Košnar have dominated the powerlifting podium for years from a young age, both have World Powerlifting Championship titles and Martin even has several, and for a long time led performance across open federations.
Alena herself is a national champion in the athletic quadruple jump and has won many competitions in aerobics, and it was the dumbbells that didn't mean much to her until the fight. Alena is 26 years old, she makes her living as an instructor of group classes, like hit-training, circuit training, bodyform, etc., focusing only on exercises with her own body, conditioning and shaping exercises.
It was the contrast of Alena's and Karolina's sports that enriched the duel considerably. When a girl who rarely goes to the gym faced an opponent who works out for a living. Even though the duel was accompanied by peripeties just before the start, adjustments of disciplines from the opponent's side, finally an unplanned 2nd round, Alena still managed to win very narrowly. We have never seen a fight with such an equal result in the 1st round before, there is a disproportion in performance between the girls. Karolína clearly dominated with dumbbells and unfortunately we couldn't see the discipline with her own weight, which Alena chose (men's push-ups). However, there are no losers in wars and this also applies to the girls' competitions, only one can take home a medal.
Enjoy today's interview with Alena Kosnar, the red-haired northerner who didn't shy away from the challenge of going to fight in the girls' edition of the power wars.
Q&A:
Alena, please tell us, how does a girl like you, who is not into fitness, get into the Czech Strength Wars project, what is your role behind everything?
I've been in the Swaglift and Power Wars project practically since the beginning, as a help and support for Pavlis Vacko. Last year, I also completed all the foreign wars in the organizing team, so the initial idea as a joke to go to the girls' wars was actually a pretty good idea and a joke. It was a challenge, since weights and dumbbells in general are very far from me, I went for it, I hustled and I won :) But the biggest pressure and stress was on the psyche, I had a good opponent who I think we had a lot of fun with, and it was also fun during the medallion shoot when we both knew it was fun.
Would you like to start maybe training more in the gym after this initial fight and fight again in time?
Absolutely, it's a great opportunity to show that I'm not afraid to face an opponent who is at home in the gym. So yes, I'd love to show up in fights again. I'll train harder in the gym and we can do it again.)
What are you focusing on and what do you enjoy the most about what you are currently doing, do you have a vision?
Currently I'm mainly doing fitness and functional classes for the general public. These are mainly classes like circuit and functional training, Hiit workouts, bodyform and other fitness classes. My goal is to continue in this industry and expand my clientele even more than it already is.
How does a girl with such a strong family avoid working out with weights anyway? You've never been tempted to try something like weightlifting, power triathlon?
Well, it never occurred to me. When I was little, my mom took me to the gym, where I started with gymnastics, then aerobics, then track and basketball, and there was no room for weights. And my brothers never "luckily" enticed me to try it too :)
What do you, as an unbiased person, say about today's fitness and the trend around it?
I see fitness as a big trend, even though I'm not super into it, it definitely influences me. We see it everywhere, on all the networks, magazines etc. perfect figures, enhanced beauties to perfection. I'm sure it's good that people are involved in something, it's a hobby and a sport like other industries, I like it myself and it's right that people are going somewhere, I just don't think it's healthy when it turns into an obsession with perfection and looks, when it has nothing to do with a healthy lifestyle and it's about looking good, no matter what.
Do you have any tips for other girls on how to prepare for a fight like this, is it even possible to prepare for it?
At first I thought it was something you could prepare for. I mainly trained squats with 50kg and 70kg so I wouldn't burn out on the first event, even though I managed to go to the gym about 5 times. I did them with 50kg breaks of 10 reps, but as you could see, there was no time for any rest during the fight. I was most stressed out about the fight itself though, there are just a lot of scenarios running through everyone's head I guess and even though it's fun, the tension and challenge is in the air. But what disappointed and derailed me the most was the adjustment of 2 disciplines just before the duel, when Karolina refused to do the men's push-ups, I should have chosen another discipline, but in the end we "talked" at least the women's push-ups, which is no longer about any performance but about speed, and swapping the order with the medicimbal for push-ups didn't help me at all... but I get it, the fight had to go, we couldn't cancel, and I went into it with no regrets. We're just used to fair play, and this wasn't fair to me, but luckily I was able to make up the loss, Kaya and I both finished evenly, and the 2nd even round decided in my favor.
She started squatting with weights, about a month before the fight and did about 4 training sessions :D Are you enjoying it? Or do you think it's not much for girls? Although we all know what a significant impact it has on body sculpting and healthy self-esteem, outdoing yourself, lifting something, etc :)
I enjoy squatting, although we don't have a longer relationship yet :) maybe that's why as I squat with a barbell for a short time, I quite enjoy it, it's something new that I'm not used to and the challenges and variations of workouts, it just gets me going and actually feeds me. Inventing and incorporating something new all the time. So squats are definitely for girls, I just don't think I'd ever get past the point where I'd want to be the strongest woman, or lift disproportionately large weights for squats and lose that "femininity". And outdoing yourself is beautiful in everything, not just squatting.
Supplements, you rank as a girl, do you have a favorite that's really TOP #1?
Definitely, I love proteins, I don't really understand them but I have to like them I know that :D I like almost every flavor, I've never bought one, luckily I always get some from a friend.
As far as other supplements go, I supplement with vitamins and minerals, I don't know the other stuff and don't take them, I'll try a kicker from time to time when I can't go to the gym after working out all week.
Do you have any sports role models (favorites) in or out of fitness, who maybe you enjoy watching, fulfilling path you'd like to take as well, etc.?
I don't really have any sports role models, not in fitness either. Of the more famous people I follow Zuzka Light, Katya Kyptova and some others, but mostly I follow people who are around Swaglift and who I know personally, those with whom Pavlis makes videos, because that is a "certain" guarantee for me that those people are worth it :)
And one last question, tell people and maybe your new followers some words and why they should keep following you?
This is the hardest question, I'm not a "celebrity" for you to follow me just because I have a name or look a certain way :) but if you're interested in how I continue on and if I'm going to continue with fitness and maybe wars in my next fight, go ahead and give me a follow :D Otherwise I'd love to see you at any of our shoots, I'm pretty much everywhere : )
