Mr. Big Evolution Pro 2021 - unfortunately our Honza Turek didn't make it to the TOP 10!
This past weekend Portugal hosted the first ever European competition of the IFBB Jim Manion Professional League, the Mr. Big Evolution Pro 2021, which in 2018 and 2019 was more strictly called Portugal Pro.
On the stage of this competition, fighters representing both male bodybuilding categories got the opportunity, i.e. both the Open category designed for heavyweights without any weight difference and their lighter counterparts, whose maximum weight limit is 212 pounds.
Let's take a look at how the fighters fared, including our own Honza Turek, whose preparation we were able to follow.
Open category:
A total of 16 heavyweights were on stage. There could have been 17, as Essa Obaid, the tenth man of Mr. Olympia 2015, also came to Portugal. However, he suffered a back injury shortly before the start which prevented him from standing on the competition podium.
However, our representative, Honza Turek, was not missing on the podium, for whom it was the second start among professionals in the Maniova Liga. Honza's goal was to at least repeat the respectable eighth place he achieved last year in his debut at Europa Pro 2020.
That Honza would not place better than eighth was immediately obvious during the first semi-final comparison, in which the judges called for a six-man line-up of Tim Budesheim, Theo Leguerrier, William Martins, Andrea Presti, Vladislav Sukhoruchko and Krystian Wolski. In the middle of the line, the pair of Presti - Sukhoruchko posed first, with Budesheim then cutting in for the rest of the comparison.
After some time, everyone had had enough, and it was obvious that they would like to step back and rest a bit. The head referee, however, was of a different opinion, and he gave them all he could. He even gloated when he said:
Are you tired already? I'm not!
Unfortunately, Honza didn't even fit into the second comparison, in which the five of Khaled AlKazem, Adolf Burghardt, Alfred Chiriac, Andrea Muzim and Anton Shal presented themselves to the judges. Honza knew at that moment that unfortunately he would not even make the top 10 in this event.
Once again, as it was the case at Portugal Pro 2019, it turned out that our fighters are simply not doing well here!
Honza Turek was able to show himself in front of the judges only in the third comparison, in which Jimmy Atienza, Dainius Barzinskas, Sergio Lima and James Bondi posed together with him.
After this challenge followed the fourth comparison, which was also the last one, with the same composition as in the first comparison.
But then came something unprecedented, something nobody expected, something unprecedented in Jim Manion's IFBB Professional League! Usually after the semi-final part of the competition comes the final part, i.e. the free line-ups, and the next wave of comparisons. However, this was not the case here! No free lineups, no final comparisons, no break! We went straight to a sit-down, followed by a very quick announcement of the results!
The winner was announced as Andrea Presti, who had already impressed in 2018 when he took a great 2nd place in his professional debut at the 2018 George Farah Classic!
Andrea, who is not one of the best in terms of physique, but always impresses with his excellent preparation, hard, full and perfectly separated muscles, recently competed at the Wings of Strength Puerto Rico Pro 2021, where he took 4th place.
In Portugal, however, he managed not only to win his first professional victory, but also to participate in Mr. Olympia, which was the last time the Italian representative managed to do 28 years ago!
The second place went to Tim Budesheim. Although he possessed a much more attractive physique and his most muscular pose was one of the best the competition had to offer, his form fell short of the winner.
Third place in Portugal went to William Martins, who made his debut at the Wings of Strength Puerto Rico Pro 2021 three weeks ago, where he finished seventh.
Again, he offered a lot of muscle that is full and hard, but also a really bad midsection. However, it was enough for the judges to place him this high.

In the end, Honza Turek had to settle for 14th place. Of course, he may see this as a task left unfulfilled, but we believe that it didn't stop him, and it didn't take away his motivation to keep improving!
Although Honza looked very well prepared on the podium, he still lags behind his competitors, especially in the amount of quality muscle mass.
