Interview with professional bodybuilder Petr Šidl!

Hi Peter, could you introduce yourself to our readers?

I greet all the readers of Kulturistika.com. My name is Petr Šidlo and I am 25 years old. I have been training for 17 years and I did my first competition in 2008. I currently live in Prague where I also work as a personal trainer at Eagle fitness.

Have you done any races this year and what are you preparing for?

I made my pro debut this year at the Elite Pro Malta and am still preparing for the fall season, probably the Nordic Pro and Elite Pro Madrid.

How is your preparation going this year?

Everything went great this year. I think preparation is also a lot about having the right mind set and that is influenced by your personal life and when everything is right in that, then the preparation goes that much better. Except for Malta, the end of the preparation didn't go so well, I tried to fill more and drain less, which didn't turn out to be good, but until the final phase everything went great.

Have you changed anything since the last preparation?

Not really, it depends a lot on how the body reacts so of course there are always some changes in terms of food and training, but not that everything is completely different.

What are your biggest achievements in bodybuilding so far?

I consider my biggest achievement to be getting my Elite Pro Card in 2018 after winning the Diamond Cup in Malta.

Then 3 national championship titles in both junior and senior.

How long have you been training?

I have been training since I was 8 years old. So now it's about 17 years. My older brother brought me to the gym and that's how it all started.

How is Peter different before and after the pro card?

I don't think so. I try to keep my feet firmly on the ground. I still have big goals in my life that I want to achieve and I know that with my feet on the ground and the right humility I can achieve it best. Of course, one has gained a lot of experience over the years in the amateurs, so hopefully a bit smarter and wiser :), but still just as hungry for success as when one started.

Do you have any sponsors?

Yes my main sponsor is BFC nutrition. Specifically, I would like to thank Petr Sulka who takes care of me 100% as far as supplements are concerned.

How many times a week do you train? And how are your workouts divided?

I'm currently in a bulking program preparing for the fall competitions so I'm training 3+1 AND 2+1

Tuesday - Complete Legs

Wednesday - Hands

Thursday - Shoulders, additional hamstrings

Friday - Free time

Saturday - Back, additional biceps

Sunday - Breasts, supplemental triceps

Monday - Free

Where do you train? Do you have any mentees under you?

I train at eaglefitness in Prague and I've been there for 3 years as a personal trainer.

Yes I do, I am currently preparing 5 athletes for the autumn season so far.

Who trains you? Or are you your own coach?

I compose my trainings and everything around it myself, I always go to Slawek Vinogradov to look at me and from the point of view of an international judge tell me where the deficiencies are to focus on etc :).

Did you have to sacrifice a lot in your life to get where you are now?

I wouldn't even say sacrifice, I find this lifestyle fulfilling, so it's not a sacrifice for me, I enjoy everything, to some extent you are limited in certain activities, I notice it especially now once the weight has gone up, but as I said it's not a sacrifice for me. It's worse, for example for my girlfriend, because I really don't go out much :D I try to rest as much as possible and save energy for training, so for her patience she deserves my big thanks. I think any bodybuilder who is serious and knows a person who really supports them should really appreciate it, it's not very common.

What advice would you give to those who want to start bodybuilding?

Don't want everything right away, set realistic goals and go for them. Don't buy into AS right away and try out what it's like to prepare naturally, if I'm going to enjoy it at all and if I have the head for this sport.

What do you think young and inexperienced bodybuilders underestimate?

They want to speed everything up, they want to push themselves too fast at all costs they reach for AS too soon instead of squeezing the most out of a diet of supplements and hard training. Then they pull unnecessary weights that they can't handle at all, risking unnecessary injury and thus physique deformation, plus the volume part of training which for them is "all you can eat" but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You always need to have a good foundation.

What are the top 3-5 supplements for you?

Multivitamin

Multimineral

Omega 3

Vitamin C

Protein

What are your macros in diet and volume?

Well this year my diet was around 400S 400B and 100T and.my volume is currently at 1000S 500B and 120T

Who would you like to thank?

Definitely my loved ones for their undying support, both my parents my brother and my girlfriend. Then to BFC Nutrition and Peter Sulka for their quality sponsorship of supplements and all the fans who cheer me on. I really appreciate it.

We thank Peter for the interview and wish him good luck and success in both his sporting and personal life!
