Nick Walker shocks everyone! The new Mr. Olympia explains why he hasn't taken creatine in years!

Creatine is one of the most popular and best-researched supplements in the world. Yet even the king of bodybuilding himself can do without it! The newly crowned Mr. Olympia 2026, Nick Walker, surprised fans when he revealed that he hasn’t taken creatine for several years. And the reason? In his words, it didn’t give him any results, and on the contrary, it made him feel bloated.

He doesn’t need creatine. He relies on his genetics!

Nick Walker has achieved the success of a lifetime. At this year’s Mr. Olympia, he managed to defeat such names as Samson Dauda, Derek Lunsford, and Andrew Jacked, winning the prestigious Sandow Trophy for the first time in his career.

In a recent interview for the PricePlow podcast, however, he opened up about something that might surprise more than a few gym-goers. One of today’s most massive bodybuilders admitted that he hasn’t taken creatine for about six to seven years!

“I never felt like it did anything for me. Aside from feeling bloated, I didn’t see any benefits,” Walker explained.

Furthermore, he said that, given his genetic makeup, he doesn’t consider this supplement necessary. He therefore simply eliminated creatine from his regimen and hasn’t gone back to it.

Interestingly, Walker consumes large amounts of meat, which is a natural source of creatine. His decision, then, doesn’t mean he has completely eliminated this substance from his diet.

After the Olympia, he gained seven kilograms in two days!

Creatine, however, wasn’t the only interesting topic of the interview. Walker also opened up about what followed his triumph in Las Vegas. After months of a strict regimen, he finally treated himself to a hearty meal and didn’t worry about any major restrictions. The result? In just two days, his weight shot up by about seven kilograms!

As he admitted, after winning the Olympia, he simply wanted to enjoy the moment he’d been waiting for so long. But he quickly returned to his normal routine. He even cut out carbohydrates completely for three days, and, according to him, his weight returned to its original levels.

At the same time, however, he emphasized that he loves carbohydrates and considers them an essential part of his diet and training performance.

Does that mean creatine is useless?

Absolutely not! Although Walker didn’t notice any significant benefits for himself, his personal experience cannot automatically be applied to other athletes.

Creatine monohydrate is one of the most scientifically supported dietary supplements, especially when it comes to supporting strength, performance during intense exercise, and muscle growth in combination with strength training.

And what about the alleged water retention? Creatine can increase the amount of water in the body—including inside muscle cells—especially at the beginning of supplementation. However, this does not automatically mean unwanted water retention under the skin, which would impair muscle definition.

Walker’s case thus primarily demonstrates that even at the highest level of professional bodybuilding, competitors tailor their supplementation to their own experiences.

One thing is certain, though. Nick Walker managed to win the most prestigious title in bodybuilding even without creatine supplementation. And following the triumph of a lifetime, he’s already starting to set his sights on his next big challenge—the 2027 Arnold Classic.

Just because Nick Walker gets by without creatine doesn’t mean it can’t be beneficial for you! If you want to boost your strength performance and build substantial muscle mass, go with scientifically proven creatine monohydrate, which supports performance during short-term, high-intensity exercise. For maximum muscle growth and quality recovery, don’t forget to ensure adequate protein intake—high-quality whey protein can help with that. And since intense workouts take a toll not only on your muscles but also on your musculoskeletal system, take care of your joints and add joint nutrition to your supplement plan. Train hard, recover smart, and push your limits!
