Crossfitter Mat Fraser worked out his back and biceps with Buttery Bros
If you are interested in CrossFit, you will not have missed the name Mathew Edward Fraser. This athlete is historically the best crossfit competitor, having managed to win the most prestigious CrossFit Games five times. Fraser made his debut at this spectacular show in 2014 when he finished second behind the legend of the sport, Rich Froning.
CrossFit Games 2014

The very next year, Mat was already grinding his teeth for gold, but this time it was Ben Smith who captured it for him. It wasn't until 2016 that Fraser managed to win gold at the Games and he maintained that record until 2020 when he retired from competition. Fraser is thus the only male competitor to win the Games five times in a row, followed by the legendary Rich Froning with four scalps, but with five more titles from the team division...
Even though Mat has retired from racing, he has remained very active. He started his own training brand HWPO (Hard Work Pay Off), wrote a book, runs his own podcast channel and came up with a new nutritional supplement called "Podium". And all this in just one year...
Despite his busy schedule, Mat stays in great shape and keeps on training. Of course, he is no longer at the level he was when he was competing professionally, but he is certainly keeping himself in good shape. That's one of the reasons why he has his own gym in his house, so that it's not too far from his love. Recently, he swapped his usual functional training for a normal hypertrophy back and biceps workout, which his friends from his work team also participated in. The workout consisted of the following exercises.
- Wide-grip lat pulldowns
- Dumbbell rows
- Single-arm cable curls (using a bench for stability)
- Cable curls using a rope
- Rear delt lateral raises
- Wide-grip barbell curls
- Hammer curls
What do you think, should crossfitters include normal bodybuilding (hypertrophy) workouts?
