Can you pass the fitness test to join the U.S.ARMY?

There are several reasons why young boys join the army. Some enlist out of national pride, which makes them feel like they are protecting their country. Another may be that after school, for example, young men don't know what to do next, so the possibility of steady work combined with adrenaline and not a small paycheck will do the trick. We could certainly find more reasons, but in any case, in order to join the army, the "rookies" have to pass physical tests. These are different in every army and the soldier's specialty also changes the physical requirements. For example, "Navy SEALs" will not have the same physical tests as a military cook or technician.

Today, however, we're going to take a look at the test that all new recruits in the US must pass if they want to join the military. First we must mention that the entrance test will be changing this year for new recruits in the US. About 1980, soldiers had to complete the following test - the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) - a two-mile time trial, maximum push-ups and sit-ups in two minutes. The APFT is administered during a soldier's initial entry/basic training and every six months thereafter with the unit.

This fall, however, this test will experience an "up grade" to the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). So how will Soldiers be tested? The minimum score to enter is getting 70 points in each "discipline."

2 - Standing Power Throw:

  • To score 100: 1:40 min.
  • To score 70: 2:09 min.

5 - Leg Tuck:

In this test, soldiers hang from a trapeze and must pull their knees to their elbows. Maximum points are awarded when a soldier reaches 20 repetitions.

  • To score 100: 20 reps.
  • To score 70: 5 reps.

6 - Two-Mile Run for Time

In the last test, soldiers run two miles for time. If the time does not exceed 12:45min, the soldier scores maximum points.

  • To score 100: 12:45 min
  • To score 70: 18:00 min
