Crossfit World Commemorates Fallen Soldiers - Hero wod Murph & Memorial day!

Almost every CrossFitter knows this wod "Murph". They imagine sweat and blood. But do you know the story behind this workout? We're going to explain it to you today, and for those who don't know this wod, we'll explain it to you.

Hero workout Murph was named after fallen Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. Michael and three of his colleagues, Marcus Luttrell of Huntsville, Matthew Axelson of Cupertino and Danny Dietz of Littleton, got into a fierce firefight on a rocky hillside in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. After each member was shot at least once, Murphy decided to make a satellite phone call to Bagram Airfield and ask for the team to be rescued. At the end of the two-hour firefight, Murphy, Dietz and Axelson were dead. The tragedy was made all the worse when 16 rescue workers - eight other SEALs and eight members of the elite "Night Stalkers" military - were killed when their MH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade. It was the largest single-day loss in the history of naval special warfare...
