UCL Winter Christmas "GAMES" V. České Budějovice

Hello readers, today we have a report from the ultimateleague.cz "crossfit" races

Competitions under the name WINTER CHRISTMAS GAMES took place on 17.12.2016 in the HoSPORT area in Stary Hodejovice.

The teams were composed of two boys and one girl. A total of 16 teams participated in the race.

The gymnasium was transformed into a UCL arena during the night, which included a zone for referees, fans, a rest area and a warm-up area for the competitors.

The advantage of the HoSPORT venue was the beautiful facilities. Restaurants for light and larger refreshments, who also accommodated us and prepared a special menu for the competitors. Furthermore, the use of the changing rooms and toilets was a great advantage.

So let's get to the race itself.

The first four WODs were posted three days before the race so teams could plan their tactics ahead. The difficulty was such that even beginners could do the exercises.

For teams from far away, we opened registration the day before. Other teams could present themselves on the morning of the race. The opening went according to plan and the standards of the exercises were run through quickly for clarification.

In previous races we had competitors from Slovakia, and now we had a team from Austria. The Kraft Arena team came 450km to race with us.
We are open to foreign participation and in the future we will try to get more teams to join us.

Everything kicked off a little after 9am. In the first WOD, competitors were treated to a 1400m run, 1000m row and 50x TTB (toe to trap).
Each team member had to choose one option.
Which they followed in turn. The first one ran and passed the baton, where the other team members ran the trapeze and the oar at the same time.
Of course, it didn't stop after that and followed:
ALL Synchro 21-15-9
English squat / squat / sit-ups

The best team was GetUp Brno, who were the only one to make it within the 14-minute time limit. The fastest runners were Aleš Vacl and Jura Hasík.

The second workout tested the teams in terms of strength. A ladder from 25-110kg was created and everyone had to perform a complex on the barbell:
CLEAN + FS + HANG CLEAN + DL
Everyone chose a starting weight, then progressed to the next weight. In total, everyone was tasked with lifting three dumbbells in succession. Time was also a major factor, as each team only had 3 minutes to do this.
The total weight lifted by the team was counted, and if there was an equal number, the time was decisive.

The best team from Pilsen was GetUp GOLD, who lifted 690kg.

The third discipline was divided into two parts. In the first one we tested how the athletes were doing with gymnastics and working their own bodies and the second part was more fitness.

3 WOD
A) 9-7-5, 8min TC
complex- 3x ring TTB + 2x pull-up + 1x CH2B
rope climb
B) 14min TC
300x DU, activ rest HS
200x WB 6kg, activ rest HS
100x CAL row, activ rest HANG

All WODs and individual results can be found here.

After three WODs we had a cut to 12 teams. We gave a Christmas present to those who finished below the line and let all teams into the 4 WODs.

We wanted everyone to enjoy the races and get enough practice in.

The fourth WOD included a strength endurance on the line. The girl and boy had to do a complex 3xCLEAN + 3xFS + 3xSTOH, where everything was done in sync. Then the guys switched the axis and the given complex was ridden separately.
The men's axle was not allowed to touch the ground, this was penalized with five English penalties for the whole team. The result was a total number of complexes in eight minutes.

There was a small break after the ride off and all teams waited for the results to see if they had made it to the final, which was for 6 teams only.

But the organizers prepared a small surprise and that was the inserted WOD No. 5. Nobody expected it. This discipline counted towards the overall standings and could have shuffled the final six.

"Jump into the finals"

Yes, jump into the finals. Broad jump. Each team member had one minute, three attempts and the best one counted.
The unexpected workout was fun for everyone, it was fast and short. At least everyone got to try their hand at it. We also saw some great performances and only David Hajek from ČB and Martin Feiferlík from Plzeň got over the three meter mark.

Then the arena was adjusted for the final "battle". We announced the first six teams, who were slowly preparing, to give their best performance.
For the first time I saw a heat of two teams at the competition. It definitely had something to it, it was a beautiful display for the fans to really hear.

The final WOD was a little harder and included more complex exercises.

UCL FINAL BATTLE
4 Round, 10min Time Cap
10x SYNCHRO HANG SNATCH (W only 5x)
3x CH2B (w)
5x ring muscle-up
5m HS walk

The finals had a lot of juice, the whole half hour gave me chills :). This was another level. The girls showed how to do chest pull-ups and the guys made sure the crowd didn't sit down and were still in suspense. One muscle-up after another flew around the rings, ending with a hand walk.
There were fighters who walked it unbroken. It is also worth mentioning the performances of the girls Lenka Jandová and Klara Kolínská, who with the support of the fans walked on their hands 2x 2,5 and could enjoy a big applause.

I think that the final WOD must have motivated a lot of people who were in the hall and if they were thinking of starting something like that, they were determined at that moment.

The whole day was very calm and on schedule. No long delays and no confusion. Although this should be judged by someone else to be objective, rather than me in my role as organiser.
That said, be sure to give us your feedback, it is only through it that we can improve and move forward.

The races ended a little after 3 pm and at 3:30 pm there was a summary of the whole racing year (5 races in total) with the announcement of the results.
