Why is it good to squat with chains?

From time to time, we will publish an article or insight from Dr. Aaron Horschig that focuses on training tips. And one such tip is what we'll be talking about today. I'm sure you've met someone who has performed a squat with chains. You may have asked yourself: "I wonder why he does that? What's it good for?" The answer is provided by Dr. Aaron Horschig, who specializes in strength and conditioning training for all types of athletes.

Dr. Aaron Horschig:

"In a regular squat, the bottom of the movement is the hardest part and the exercise gets progressively easier as you move up. That's why you can do a ton more on the quarter squat than on the deep squat. The chains will lighten the weakest part of the exercise and load the strongest part. This helps you with acceleration and position-specific strength - this concept is called resistance accumulation."
