8 Benefits of Morning Training

A morning workout is a great start to the day, flushes out endorphins, jump starts your metabolism and much more. Here are 8 compelling reasons why it's beneficial to wake up and start your day with a good workout.

1) High-volume training without the hassle

You surely know that situation when you have a perfectly planned workout, you look forward to it, but in a crowded gym it's almost impossible to get on the machine you just want to workout on. But if you do get up, there's an empty or half-empty gym waiting for you, where you can work out all the sets in peace without being restricted by anyone else.

2) Hormones working in your favour

Testosterone levels, which helps build muscle mass, are higher in the early morning and gradually decrease throughout the day. Thanks to testosterone, you'll have more strength for your workout and it will also help you with better recovery afterwards.

3) More time for afternoon activities

Family, friends and other hobbies also demand your time. If you do your workout in the morning, you will have more time in the afternoon and evening for other enjoyable activities, and your family members will appreciate your presence in the warmth of your home.

4) Better concentration at work or school

A morning workout will wake your body and mind up, get you started and give you the space you need to organize your thoughts. You'll then enter the new work or school day with a clearer head, which in turn will help you focus better at work or study and perform better.

5) Less likely to skip training

You may need a cup of coffee to 'kick-start' you after you wake up before you start your workout, but once you're up, there are few things that will put a damper on your morning workout. There are countless such distractions in the afternoon. It could be fatigue, overtime at work, the need to finish a school project, loss of motivation. Friends, acquaintances and family can also be to blame, tempting you to other activities and "forcing" you to skip your workout. However, if you include a workout in the morning, you will avoid these problems and you won't feel bad about skipping your workout in the evening.

6) Speeding up your metabolism

There is no doubt that exercise can affect metabolism. The extent to which a workout will affect your metabolic rate depends on your current level and whether you choose, for example, volume training, cardio or hiit in the morning. Training in the morning will not only help you to have a faster metabolism, but it will also ensure that you burn more calories throughout the rest of the day. This phenomenon is called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). If you want to give your metabolism the biggest "kick", include HIIT (high-intensity interval training) in the morning, and you can also boost it with one of the thermogenic burners.

7) Less distraction from surroundings

If you're training in the afternoon, chances are you'll bump into your friends or acquaintances at the gym. There's nothing wrong with that, but you can often end up spending most of your time chatting and just skipping your workout. If you don't break a sweat and do more talking than working out, you may improve your speaking skills, but you can't expect any dizzying results on your physique or improvements in physical strength. But you can bet that in the early morning hours at the gym, you'll mainly meet people who only care about one thing - getting a good workout in.

8) Better mood

You're probably already familiar with the fact that exercise releases endorphins - the "happy hormones" that improve mood, induce a sense of well-being and dampen pain. You don't have to do hours of grueling cardio to feel good, but to flush out the endorphins, your workout should be intense enough. Just having a workout well done first thing in the morning is reason to be happy, yet all it takes is so little - setting your alarm a little earlier.

If you want to start training in the morning, be patient. Everything may not go your way right away, getting up and exercising in the morning may seem difficult at first, but once you adapt to this new ritual, your performance will improve rapidly and eventually you may not be able to imagine a morning without a workout.

What about you? Are you one of those people who can't wait to work out in the morning?
