Rice porridge should not be missing in your fitness diet! What benefits does it offer?
While for some, breakfast is the absolute staple of the day, some people wake up at the last minute and neglect it in their haste. And while, despite the myths, missing breakfast is not a problem in terms of weight loss or energy, many people would love to eat breakfast, they are just in a hurry. Fortunately, if you fall into this category, we have a solution for you. That is rice porridge, which we will introduce in this article.
What makes it so great?
Rice is a regular part of the diet for most athletes because it's relatively inexpensive, yet serves as a great source of complex carbohydrates - after all, that's why Robert talks about it in the video focused on the best sources of carbohydrates, for example. In addition, according to the analyses carried out, it also contains a certain amount of manganese, phosphorus or B vitamins, although you could of course find better sources of these nutrients. Then when it comes to rice porridge, in the case of our New 100% Rice Porridge, for example, it is nothing but 100% extruded rice, which also has a whole range of benefits:
- It is fully instant, so you can prepare it literally in seconds. You don't have to eat it only in the morning, but it's also useful in situations when, for example, you can't manage to eat after you get home from work (for example, because you don't feel like exercising) and you just want something light.
- It contains no gluten, which is a huge advantage compared to semolina or cereal porridge, for example. While most people don't have to deal with this, people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity can really benefit from it. It's more complicated with porridge, because although oats themselves do not contain gluten, they are often processed in factories with crops that already have gluten and can therefore be contaminated.
- You can flavour it exactly to your liking, so you can keep changing it and never get tired of it. Although some extruded porridges are sold already flavoured, we think the ideal product is one without any additives. So you can add frozen fruit once, a little quality cocoa or Belgian chocolate the second time, or you can sweeten it with your favourite protein or add a few drops of flavouring such as FlavDrops.
- It's almost free of simple sugars, so it's great for diets too. When you add just the aforementioned protein, you create a complex meal with minimal simple carbs and plenty of protein.
- It's suitable at any time of the day, so you can reach for it whenever it suits you. Unlike, say, an Amix Oat Mash, it contains less fibre, which can be a huge advantage before a workout when you want a quick and easy to digest meal.

How to prepare rice porridge?
If you happen to want to prepare rice porridge at home, of course there's nothing to it at all. Just put the rice in a pot with milk, bring to a boil and simmer for about 20 minutes. Then you can sweeten it as much as you like - you can reach for some of the healthier sugar alternatives, and that's pretty much it. The problem is that this porridge will take you half an hour to prepare, cook and then cool and season. The instant one is ready in a few seconds - just pour the necessary amount of porridge with hot water or milk (it usually tastes better with milk, but it is more caloric) and you are done.
How is instant rice porridge made?
Instant rice porridge is made by a process called extrusion, which is why it is sometimes also referred to as extruded rice. In this process, the carbohydrate-containing food is exposed to pressure for a relatively short period of time, causing it to heat up slightly and give the raw material a slightly liquid consistency. Once decompression occurs, the moisture evaporates and the resulting product is dry and instant. It then gains volume compared to the original version. This process is not only commonly used for the production of porridges, but also for the production of cereals, instant soups and various bars.
How about trying other types?
There are, of course, many other variants besides rice porridge. For example, if you are looking for an alternative to our New 100% Rice Porridge, you can reach for the aforementioned oat porridge or even porridge made with oats. Because each has a different raw material, each has a different spectrum of vitamins, minerals and other health benefits. And if you happen to want a fully flavoured porridge, you can choose from our wide category of protein porridges. However, for the already flavoured ones, it's a good idea to check whether they contain any processed or unwanted additives. For example, the tastefully and nutritionally balanced Extrifit Protein Break is a safe bet.
What to take away from today's article?
The main thing you should take away from today's article is that rice porridge has a huge variety of benefits - for example, it's cheap, tasty and you can prepare it literally in minutes. It's made using a process called extrusion, which is relatively gentle and commonly used, so you have nothing to worry about at all.
