Obesity, is that your problem too ?
Obesity has long been a major problem in our small country and the number of obese people is increasing. The cause is not enough exercise and poor diet. Excuses like I don't have time for exercise and for food preparation or regular meals are the order of the day. Weight loss is my main specialty, so I know your excuses very well. Yet the solution is very simple and many of my clients have managed to lose weight even with a three-shift job or other demanding job. All it takes is wanting and having the will. You have to realize that it's not only about your appearance, but more importantly about your health. Just losing even a fraction of excess weight (5 - 10% of your original weight) leads to a significant improvement in your health and future prospects.

The classification of the degree of obesity is based on the body mass index - BMI. It is one of the most widely used indicators of obesity, but is not suitable for assessing children, pregnant women and athletes. It can be calculated as the ratio of weight in kg and height in metres squared =kg/m2. As I mentioned, it comes out nonsensical for exercisers and children, so I always prefer to use the body view and body fat estimation. I can see if you are fat from a hundred miles away and don't need a magnifying glass. Plus fat percentage is easy to estimate, just practice and looking at the middle of the body.
TYPES OF OBESITY
Male type obesity (android, apple type) - visceral obesity (associated with metabolic and cardiovascular diseases)
Female-type obesity (gynoid, pear type) - subcutaneous obesity
The risk of metabolic complications of obesity and overweight (diabetes, hypertension, blood lipid abnormalities) is proportional to waist circumference and is usually classified as moderate and severe:
Men: waist circumference greater than 94cm can be considered moderate and greater than 102cm can be considered severe.
Women: waist circumference greater than 80cm and greater than 88cm can be considered moderate.
CAUSES OF OBESITY
Obesity is a disease with partially unclear causes, which include both environmental and genetic influences.
- Influencing factors:
- Psychological influences, stress, education, economic situation
- overeating, food as a drug (rat study)
- exercise restriction
- pregnancy
- ending a sporting career, retirement, etc.
- Uncontrollable influences:
- genetic, about 250 candidate genes
- age, sex, period of birth, intestinal microflora, viral infections
- resting metabolism
- postprandial energy expenditure
- spontaneous physical activity
- Bodystat settings
- ability to burn fat
- Skeletal muscle characteristics, adipose tissue distribution, body height, insulin sensitivity, taste preferences, birth weight, breastfeeding, etc.
ESTIMATED SITUATION IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Approximately 52% of the adult population of the Czech Republic (2008) is above normal weight. Of these, 34% are overweight and the rest are obese. Whereas in 2000-1 it was 49% and every year the percentages are increasing, so I don't know if we are that bad off if we have the finances to overeat, smoke and drink alcohol. Only 47% of women and 35% of men are normal weight.
Children and adolescents in the country (2005 data):
- 16.9% of girls aged 6-17 were overweight, of whom 4.8% were obese
- boys were overweight around 24.6%, of whom 6% were obese
Alarmingly, obesity is also increasing especially among children and this is the responsibility of us adults. I know it's not easy, I also have a teenager at home, but I try to at least set an example for him and buy mainly healthy food at home.
Here are the findings so far:
- The number of obese children has increased by an alarming 100% in the last 5 years.
- Obesity in adulthood does not depend on birth weight or the weight a child is at one year of age.
- It depends on how fast the child's weight grows in the first 4-6 months of life.
- If he gains weight too quickly, above the recommended curves, he is at higher risk of becoming obese as an adult.
- Low birth weight and rapid weight gain in the first few months of life are not only associated with the risk of obesity, but also with a higher likelihood of high blood pressure in adulthood.
CONCLUSION
This is all just expert bullshit and statistics that only serve to motivate you and warn you to do whatever it takes to avoid being in the obesity risk group if you are overweight. I could start giving you the same bullshit advice on how to get out of it, but that still wouldn't tell you anything. The solution in a nutshell is very simple and it's all up to you. Start moving, cut out alcohol, bad foods, eat regularly and consume less energy than you expend. I've published many articles on a similar topic. If you don't know what to do and want to have everything exactly lined up, where you have everything figured out and know exactly when and what to eat, then contact me. Then all you need is the will.
If you want to try it yourself, at least avoid the following mistakes and remember that it's not only about getting rid of fat, but also about gaining some muscle to keep your body healthy and looking good.
BASIC MISTAKES IN A SLIMMING DIET
- Unbalanced energy intake (starvation leads to obesity)
- Irregular, poor quality and nutritionally unbalanced diet
- Long pauses between meals lead to failure, sinning more often (eating every 2-3 hours)
- Stress
- Lack of rest (leads to eating, binge eating)
- Health problems
- Lack of exercise
- Shopping with hunger
- Excess food at home, including treats (only what you want to eat should ever be at home)
To all those who have decided to do something about their own overweight or obesity, fingers crossed. Don't be afraid at all to start going to the gym, get over the shame and start moving. No one will look at you strangely, it's only in your head. And also remember, "buns are baked in the kitchen!"
