Wesley Vissers reveals his new training split for Arnold Classic 2026

In a recent video, Vissers detailed his new training schedule, which is specifically designed to maximize the development of his back and legs. It is these areas that have been identified as key to his success in the upcoming season.

The new training split

Vissers has switched to a three-day split, training twice a week, with one day of rest. The schedule looks as follows:

  • Day 1: Legs A
  • Day 2: Chest A
  • Day 3: Back A
  • Day 4: Rest
  • Day 5: Legs B
  • Day 6: Chest B
  • Day 7: Back B

Priority number one: Legs

In order to achieve a perfect balance between the upper and lower half of the body, the legs became an absolute priority. Vissers said that 45% of his total weekly effort goes into training his legs.

"Legs have been a priority throughout the off-season and now in preparation. More volume, more sets, higher intensity - and always at the beginning of the cycle so I can put all my energy into them," Vissers explained.

Back focus: width and thickness

The second key area is the back, to which he devotes approximately 30% of his efforts. The deficiencies in back width and thickness were brought to his attention directly by head judge Steve Weinberger. Vissers has taken this criticism to heart and is now taking his back training extremely seriously in order to face his competitors in March in Columbus in the best possible shape.

The chest, which has always been his strength, is now at the end of the priority chain and Vissers is devoting the remaining 25% of his energy to it.

Prospects for the 2026 Arnold Classic

The competition will take place March 5-7, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio. Vissers believes that if he can improve on the aforementioned games, he has a fighting chance of winning. His main rivals in the fight for the top 5 and the historic $750,000 prize are likely to include Mike Sommerfeld, Sam Sulek, Andrea Mammoli and Matheus Menegate.
