The legendary Cutler showed his 3 best biceps pulley exercises!

Who wouldn't want arms that command respect? When it comes to building muscle, few have more experience than Jay Cutler. The four-time Mr. Olympia winner, who is the only man in history to reclaim the title after defeat, still boasts incredible form at 52 years old. Now, he's shared his secrets and revealed the three key pulley exercises that helped him build some of the best biceps in history. Forget complicated workouts - this is pure, brutal efficiency.

Why pulleys? Cutler explains

While free weights are a staple, pulleys offer one huge advantage: constant tension. Unlike single-arm pulleys, where tension is lost at certain points in the movement, a pulley keeps your biceps "under fire" throughout the entire rep. This leads to better blood flow, maximum pumping, and ultimately more growth.

Jay Cutler swears by this method. Here are his three favorites:

1. Bicep Lift on Scott's Bench with Pulley (Cable Preacher Curl)

This is Cutler's secret recipe for perfect isolation. Scott's bench will lock out your arms and shoulders, so only your biceps have to do all the work. By attaching a pulley instead of a dumbbell, you take this exercise to a new level.

  • Why is it so effective? The pulley provides smooth and constant tension from full extension to maximum muscle contraction. No dead spots, no easing. Just pure, targeted biceps work.
  • How to do it. Grip the straight or EZ bar and rest your upper arm on the bar. Slowly and in a controlled manner, pull the adapter toward your shoulders, contract your biceps maximally at the peak of the movement, and then slowly lower back down.

2. Rope Hammer Curls

If you want not only high biceps but also massive, "thick" arms, this is the exercise for you. Rope hammer curls target not only the biceps, but more importantly the deep arm muscle (brachialis) that lies underneath. By strengthening it, you will literally "push" your biceps up and your arms will appear more powerful from every angle.

  • Why is it so effective? The rope allows for a more natural wrist movement, and at the peak of the contraction you can move your hands slightly apart, which further activates the brachialis and forearm muscles.
  • How to do it: Stand facing the bottom pulley and grasp the ends of the rope with a neutral (hammer) grip, palms together. With your elbows tight to your body, lift the rope towards your chest. Concentrate on working your arms, not swinging your body.

3. Cable Concentration Curl

This exercise is the perfect finishing touch to your biceps training. It is a pure isolation exercise that allows you to focus on each arm individually and achieve incredible "pumping" and peak contraction.

  • Why is it so effective? It allows you to fully focus on the muscle being worked without engaging the accessory muscles. Again, the pulley ensures that the biceps are fully engaged in every millimeter of the movement.
  • How to do it. Bend slightly and rest your elbow on your inner thigh. Slowly and deliberately lift the handle towards your shoulder. At the top of the movement, try to "squeeze" your biceps as much as possible and hold for a moment before returning to the starting position. Jay recommends performing 10-12 reps for best results.

Jay Cutler's training is not rocket science. It's built on proven principles, hard work, and smart exercise selection. Incorporate these three pulley exercises into your biceps training and see for yourself what a difference constant tension and perfect isolation can make. As the champion himself says - stick to the basics that work, and the results will come.
