Nick Walker and his 'road to redemption': brutal back workout 13 weeks ahead of Arnold Classic 2026

Nick Walker has officially begun his mission for redemption. Although he got off to a promising start last season - with a second place finish at the Pittsburgh Pro and a win at the New York Pro - the top of the season didn't go as he had hoped. He finished as high as sixth at Mr. Olympia 2025, the worst result of his career to date.

Now, 13 weeks before the 2026 Arnold Classic, Walker returns with a new plan. He's ended his partnership with his coach Kyle Wilkes and is running his training on his own. His goal is clear: reclaim the Arnold Classic title he first won in 2021.

A return to the "old school"

In his latest YouTube video, Walker revealed that he is returning to the practices that have worked best for him in the past. He feels that the changes he has made in recent years have not led to the progression he expected.

"It's a classic. I've been doing this my whole professional career. I feel I need to go back to my roots, to what made me. I've made too many changes in my life and I honestly feel like I haven't improved," Walkeradmitted during the workout.

He also added that this time he won't be making big statements before the competition as was his habit (called trashtalk).

"I'm going to stay grounded. I will let what I do speak for me. I know what will happen. I'll come as I know I can come and wreak havoc like I always do."

Back training: controlled intensity and volume

Walker's current training focuses on efficient volume and maximum control of each repetition. Here's a breakdown of the exercises "Mutant" incorporated into his back training 13 weeks before the competition:

  1. Pullovers on the pulley (Cable Pullovers) - Starts with rest-pause sets to get the latissimus blood flowing.
  2. Chest-Supported Rows
  3. Single-Arm Rows
  4. Seated Rows
  5. T-Bar Rows
  6. Machine Pullovers (Machine Pullovers)
  7. Bent-Over Rear Delt Flyes - Focus on the rear delts.
  8. Barbell Incline Triceps Extensions (Barbell Incline Triceps Extensions) - Supplement for the triceps.
  9. Bicep Raises on Scott Bench (Preacher Curls)

Tough competition in Ohio

The road to the title won't be easy. Walker will take the stage in Columbus (March 5-8, 2026) against the absolute best. The main favorite is Hadi Choopan. The giant Andrew Jacked (third at the last Olympia) will also be looking for his first Arnold Classic title, and Martin Fitzwater will also join the fray.

The winner will take home a historic prize of $750,000. If Walker succeeds, it will be a huge step back to the top of the bodybuilding world for him.
