Liposomes are made from pure phospholipids isolated from sunflower lecithin. They can vary in size from a few nanometers to tens of micrometers. When combined with water, phospholipids form microscopic structures with a water-filled cavity in the middle, surrounded by a phospholipid shell. The water in the middle of the phospholipid can then dissolve other molecules, such as a vitamin or glutathione, which we need to easily absorb into the body. And while hydrophilic (water-attracting) molecules can be kept inside the encapsulated core, hydrophobic (water-repelling) substances can dissolve into the phospholipid membrane itself - in this way, liposomes can transport both hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecules. And it is precisely because of these unique properties that they are used both by Mother Nature, e.g. in breast milk, and by specialist manufacturers, e.g. in the production of drugs or food supplements.

The main benefit of using liposomes for micronutrient transport is that the liposomes themselves are not disturbed by the digestion process as they pass through the digestive tract.
