James "Flex" Lewis is leaving the division at 212 pounds!
On Monday, July 3, the online magazine Flexonline.com featured an interview with six-time Olympia 212 Showdown winner James "Flex" Lewis, which contained some very surprising information - James has decided to leave the 212-pound division after this year's Olympia Weekend!
He believes that he will claim victory this year as well, and make history in this category for many years to come! It will certainly be some time before anyone else can not only catch him in the number of triumphs, but of course surpass him!
What will be his next plans? According to his words, everything will depend on the decision of his wife Ali Rose, and eventually his trainer Neil Hill. However, in the division up to 212 pounds, as he says, he has fulfilled his potential to the maximum of what the upper weight limit allows him. So it's time to give his potential the green light, and disregard the limits.
With this in mind, he states that at 220 pounds, for example, he would present himself on stage as a completely different beast! After all, he won't be forced to burn muscle with his pre-contest diet, which is a big problem for him now!
However, in order to be competitive with the very top of the OPEN category, he will try to put on extra pounds of muscle, but in a way that will not break his proverbial symmetry! And that will require, quite undoubtedly, a longer time frame. That's why he talks about the fact that if his move among the heavyweights really happens, he will appear on the competition stages during the 2020 season at the earliest!
So many are already starting to ponder the question of who will be able to replace the king of 212s? The most frequent opinions are that it could be without a doubt one of the four Ahmad Ashkanani - the winner of the Arnold Classic 212 2017 and the second man of the Olympia 212 Showdown 2017, Kamal Ergargni - the winner of the Arnold Classic 212 2018, Jafar Ghaffar Nezhad - the winner of the New Zealand Pro 2018 and the Fiji Pro 2018 or Derek Lunsford - the winner of the Wings of Strength Titan Medical Tampa Pro 2017 and the fifth man of last year's Olympia 212 Showdown.
What is the future of the 212lb division without the possible appearance of James "Flex" Lewis? We'll find out one day. In the meantime, we can look forward to seeing what fights this year's Olympia 212 Showdown has to offer!
