The indestructible Hafthor Bjorsson lifts over 1000 pounds again in preparation for the Arnold Classic!

The upcoming Arnold Classic 2024, which will take place in Ohio, USA, at the turn of February and March, will host, as usual, not only prestigious bodybuilding competitions, but also strongman competitions. And the legendary Thor, who once held the record for the biggest strongman deadlift, is not lagging behind with his training.

In one of his latest workouts, which he shared on his YouTube channel and Instagram, it looks like Thor is back in shape. He managed to progressively load up to 454 kilograms on the so-called elephant bar, which is a special bar with different parameters than powerlifters' axles, which is equivalent to a weight of 1,000.9 pounds. Thor lifted this weight as well and seemed to be extremely satisfied - in fact, as he admitted, this is the first time in four years that he has managed to lift such a load.

It should be noted that for this attempt the legendary Icelandic strongman used only a belt and jerks, which is the equipment allowed in competitive attempts. His axle also met the same parameters as the competition one. Considering the ease with which he managed to lift this barbell, it is safe to assume that in a good frame of mind for a competition he can lift a slightly higher number.

"I'm actually a little shocked at how well it went up. It actually felt lighter than the 413 kilos I lifted before. I'm back!"

The likeable strongman assessed his performance. However, it should be noted that the road back to the top was definitely not easy for him. Last April, Thor suffered the biggest injury of his career, when he reportedly tore part of his chest bone completely off.

To make matters worse, he even lost his daughter in November 2023, which no doubt dealt another blow to his psyche. But the Strongman, who has competed in 73 international competitions in his career and won 38 of them, is clearly not fazed by this bad patch either. He plans to compete in three professional competitions during 2024, and given what he's been showing in the gym, it's clear that Hafthor hasn't said his final word yet.
