Mitchell Hooper broke Tom Platz's squat record with 525lbs from 1992! How many reps did he get?
Canadian strongman Mitchell Hooper is one of the fastest rising strength athletes in the world. He delivered a historic first place finish at the 2023 Worlds Strongest Man competition held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And it was in a recent YouTube video that Hooper (24 reps) broke the legendary record of bodybuilding icon Tom Platz (23 reps) in the 525-pound squat.
Tom Platz set the squat record in 1992 in Essen, Germany, when he bench pressed 525 pounds in 23 reps. He accomplished this spectacular feat in a direct competition with Fred Hatfield, who squatted the same weight for 11 reps. This iconic event has been popularly referred to as the "Great American Squat-Off".
