Are you embarrassed to go to the gym? There is nothing to be afraid of!
A gym, fitness center or any other sports facility is an environment where you will find a community of people with the same or similar goals as yours. So there is no need to stress yourself by visiting such places, on the contrary, it is very important to look forward to the training and not to make it unnecessarily uncomfortable by stress or shame in front of others. But how to overcome the initial nervousness before your first training session? Let's summarize a few points that might help you before visiting the gym.
As mentioned in the introduction, the gym is an environment where we primarily go to work out, but in a way it is also a kind of relaxation and unwinding. When we play sports we leave our worries aside, clear our minds from work responsibilities, the daily routine that each of us faces. We want to feel good, lose some pounds, improve our fitness or gain muscle mass. These are all some of the many reasons why we seek out sporting activity. For that reason alone, we should consider exercise as part of the day (or a few days in the week) and we should definitely leave the shame and stress of our surroundings behind closed doors at home. We come to the gym with a goal in mind, and our job is to meet that goal. It's our moment to do a good thing for ourselves, our health, and no one else is involved. So, focus on yourself first and foremost in the gym and eliminate the happenings in your environment. You will probably find after a few visits to the fitness center that most exercisers, like you, also have a goal for which they are trying to do their best in their workout and that the stressful looks of others at your physique, were only in your head.

If someone is afraid to come to the gym among experienced "experienced" exercisers and is not sure about the technique of the exercises, there are several possible solutions. Contact one of the trainers and arrange a personal training session. The trainer will not only reassure you about the method and technique of the exercises, but will also familiarise you with the overall environment of the gym and make you feel more confident and comfortable. Moreover, you will combine the pleasant with the useful and kill two birds with one stone:
- You will learn or improve your exercise technique
- The gym environment will be much more pleasant when you are accompanied by another person.

A similar solution can be a visit to the gym with a friend or your other half. Exercising will be more motivating for you, you will support each other and if you choose a companion who is more experienced in exercise than you, you will definitely learn a lot too. Another way to relieve stress and at the same time catch the "instructions" for exercise are group classes. They tend to be very varied and indoor classes do not necessarily mean 60 min of pedaling a spinning wheel. Try checking the website of your favorite fitness center or inquiring about indoor classes directly at the front desk. They'll be happy to help and advise you on the right class for your goal. Plus, you'll get to meet other participants at a group class and get to know equally passionate exercisers like you. The closed room (hall) will give you a better private feeling.

If you're a woman and even the above advice didn't put you at ease in front of a packed gym and the stares of others directly at you, you don't have to give up the idea of your dream figure. Many places already have women-only gyms where men are banned from entering. Such fitness centres are likely to be smaller in size than the ones we are commonly familiar with, but you are sure to find everything you need for your workout, and if you bring a female friend along, you will not only enjoy a great workout, but also a nice break from the housework and naughty kids. Many women have found a liking for these small, commercial gyms and enjoy their workouts much more as a result.
A general advice for all those who are struggling to get into the gym for the first time, whether they are beginners or advanced exercisers who are, for example, returning to training after a long break, remember one thing - you are doing it for yourself. You're the one who wants to feel good, have a firm, toned physique and finally conquer the number on the scale. If you have a goal, nothing and no one will stop you. It's up to you whether you hide at home or head out to meet your new and healthier body.
