The World´s Strongest Man 2020 - results | Young Oleksii Novikov takes gold!
At only 24 years old (just like Jón Páll Sigmarsson in 1984), Ukrainian strongman Oleksii Novikov became the winner of the most prestigious strongman competition - The World's Strongest Man 2020. The second place went to Tom Stoltman from Scotland and the third place was taken by Canadian JF Caron.
But let's take a look at the actual course of the race Before the final groups were formed, the competitors had to fight in qualifying groups:

However, this year's event did not feature big names such as Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Mateusz Kieliszkowski, or last year's winner Martins Licis.
And it was in these groups that it was decided who would advance to the final fight for the strongest man on the planet for 2020. The strongmen in the groups fought in the following disciplines:
Farmer's Carry
- All Groups
- Maximum Distance
- 150kg (331lb) in each hand
- 10m one way, lay down, lift, 10m back - again
Deadlifts
- Groups one, two and five
- Maximum reps (60 seconds)
- 345kg (761lb)

Squats
- Group three and five
- Max reps (60 seconds)
- 315kg (694.5lb)
Loading Medley
- All groups
- Score on time
Log Lift
- Groups one and four
- 125kg (275.5lb)
- Max reps (75 seconds)
Circus Dumbbell Press
- Group two, three and five
- Clean and press with four increasing one-arm dumbbells
- Clean and press with "monster dumbbell" with strong handle for max reps (75 seconds)
When all the results were added up, everything seemed clear. The top finishers in their groups advanced automatically, but those athletes who placed second and third in their groups had to undergo one more discipline to decide who would go through to the final finals.

The final battle
Brian Shaw, Jerry Pritchett, Kevin Faires, Tom Stoltman, JF Caron, Oleksii Novikov, Luke Richardson, Adam Bishop, Graham Hicks, Aivars Smaukstelis. They competed in the last three events.
Hercules Hold
The first discipline of the final day was to test the strength of the grip. This consisted of holding two poles (one in each hand) for as long as possible, each weighing an incredible 158.8kg! Canadian JF Caron (52.67 seconds) was the best in this event, with Kevin Faires (49.22 seconds) and Jerry Pritchett (42.99 seconds) coming in second.

Log Ladder
In the next discipline, the competitors were tasked with completing 5 log lifts that were steadily gaining weight. Strongmen had to lift five loglifts in the 130-180kg weight range as fast as possible - this was best done by Tom Stoltman (5 logs, 49.45 seconds), second place in this discipline went to Jerry Pritchett (5 logs, 51.84 seconds) and third place went to Oleksii Novikov (4 logs , 32.68 seconds).
Atlas Stones
The last discipline that was to decide everything was again Atlas Stones. In this discipline the strongmen had to lift 5 stones in the shortest time in the weight range of 140-210kg. Tom Stoltman (5 stones, 19.89 seconds) was again the best, Brian Shaw (5 stones, 28.55 seconds) came second and JF Caron (5 stones, 34.03 seconds) took third place.
Final results
When all the results were added up, the final standings were clear. As we mentioned in the beginning, the new strongest man in the world was Oleksii Novikov from Ukraine, second place was taken by Tom Stoltman from Scotland, who also managed to set a new world record in the heaviest atlas lift this year. JF Caron took bronze for Canada.
