Strongman Šternberk 2024: Petr Leflík dominated the race! Results and report

On Saturday, 22 June 2024, the battle for the Strongest Man Award in Šternberk 2024 took place on the Moravian field. Shortly after noon, the twelfth year of this very popular event, organized by the Strongman Team Moravia under the leadership of the Motáň brothers and their organizing team, could begin. The famous race coincided with another race in Osek in Most, but this certainly did not detract from the quality of the race and its cast, nor from the rich spectator scenery, which thanks to the favorable weather was great. Ten amateur strongmen had a total of 5 challenging disciplines, which tested the overall readiness of the competitor.

The organizers prepared the following disciplines:

• 100 kg barrel
• Truck pull
• Axle deadlift 240 kg
• Axle lift 125 kg
• Trunks 135 kg and duck 160 kg

I won't belabor the beginning and let's get straight to the description of the disciplines and their course.

Soudek

The first and immediately original medley discipline in the center of which stood a 100-weight plastic keg. The competitor's task was to get it first on one shoulder, then put it down, then get it on the other shoulder and put it down again. Finally, to pick it up and sprint a 15 metre course. All within a 60 second time limit. Sounds overly complicated, but all the competitors fit the time limit, the fastest in less than half the time. Third place from the discipline went to David Nemec, who did everything in 29.53 seconds. Second place goes to Tomas - Zemi - Zeman for a great time of 28.38. The first place on the discipline all about the steamer was taken by Marek Kubis with a time of 23,06 seconds.

Truck pull

This is exactly the type of disciplines I like, the spectators stop breathing while watching a man pulling an 8.5 tonne truck. In Šternberk, with a 15m counter-attack. This made the truck just a toy pulled behind 10 gentlemen playing. The truck was towed by all of them without any problems and even the slowest ones did it in half the time. The original limit was 60 seconds.

To compare the results of the best ones, it was literally hundredths of a second. Half of the starting field fit into 3 seconds. The bronze in the discipline went to Marek Kubis, who reached the mark in 18.40 seconds. The silver went to Petr Leflik, whose stopwatch showed 16.94 at the end. Bedřich Jochim showed how to do it correctly and quickly and won the discipline with a time of 16.31 seconds.

Axle deadlift

A deadlift on a thick axle that doesn't help even a millimeter, this is a proper deadlift for tough guys, according to the organizers 240 kg was loaded, so no fun, but a nice workout. And that's how the standings turned out, a lot of split points but also a clear winner. Bedřich Jochim, Tomáš Robenek and Štěpán Zeman, all of them did 5 repetitions. Second place went to Tomas Zeman, who did one more repetition, i.e. six. The victory went to Petr Leflik, who threw 8 pieces.

Axle lift

The axle, which is 5 centimeters in diameter and is damn hard to hold on the deadlift, we can stay with, just slightly take away the final weight of 125 kg. This time the competitors will have to lift it above their heads and more than once if they want a good placing. Here I can say for myself that Axle is better to lift above the head than a regular axle, at least subjectively for me. And even though the same weight has been regularly included by the organizers since the beginning of the tradition in Sternberg, this year it turned out to be a sieve for those who are already exhausted and for those who can still... Almost half of the starting field stayed with zero, so Bede Jochim only needed 3 reps to win and reap the points, a great performance.

Suitcases and duck

Another running medley, where a 15 meter track was run back and forth, the first time with suitcases loaded to 135 kg each, the return with a duck walk weighing 160 kg. Third place went to Pavel Šulák, who ran the 30 metres in a time of 41.32 seconds. The second place went to Tomas Zeman in 22,07. The fastest finisher was Petr Leflik, who had a time of 21.35. The last discipline was also the most important one in case the competitors reached the same number of points. The result of this discipline was reflected in the overall results.

Results

Before we get to the overall standings, I would like to point out here that Strongman Team Moravia has long supported charity work and helping the needy. By that I also want to say that all the big guys have their hearts in the right place and are happy to help, even though they may look scary on the surface. This year's total proceeds from the event, the sale of items at the booth and refreshments totaled 19 500,- CZK to help Adele on her account at Konta Bariéry. Great job, huge thanks and thumbs up.

The whole event was well prepared and planned, but I don't need to mention that, the only thing the guys from Sternberk don't have under their thumb is the weather, but it worked out this year, so it was a blast. The spectators also came into their own and took away some small prize, but mainly an experience of a lifetime, they could try out disciplines, only weight adjusted to the ordinary mortal.

Today's race ended very interestingly, for example, the third overall, with a total of 40 points was Bedrich Jochim, who is definitely not among the youngest competitors, but on the contrary shows that this sport can be done at any age. Yogi, great job. The second place, also with 40 points, but a better position in the last discipline, goes to Tomas - Master Bendpress - Zeman, who this time missed the victory by 0.7 seconds. But it was a fight. Petr Leflik won the victory and the title of the biggest points collector, also of course the strongest man of Šternberk.
