Strongman Brandýs nad Labem 2025 - results and reportage

The first Sunday in September belonged to strong men and their fans in Brandýs nad Labem in the first ever race in this town. A total of 10 professional strongmen gathered on the square in the afternoon to show their strength and to show who is the best among them.

The sunny weather also favoured the spectator scenery, which was excellent, the spectators cheered as loud as their vocal cords could. The competitors, among whom one of the organizers Lukáš Patera, as well as Honza Šleis and fifty-one-year-old Radek Rosa and others were introduced after a three-year break, measured their strength in five disciplines:

• Car wrecker
• Flinstone press
• Giant dumbbell
• Tire flip
• Atlas stones

And the race could begin.

Car wrecker

The car wrecker is a very popular discipline this year at home races, I think it has been used at least 3 times and each time it has received a well-deserved audience response. Handles are attached to a suspension device on the car, the racer grabs them, lifts the car and, like a wheelbarrow or garden wheelbarrow, pushes the car along a 20 metre course. Frankly, it's not easy. Despite the handicap (torn hamstring, ed.), Lukáš Patera took third place with a time of 11.74 seconds. Vojtěch Kučera took the second place with a time of 10.68 seconds. Zdeněk Vávra defended his victory in the discipline with a time of 10.31.

Flinstone press

The Flinstone press in Brandýs was not as spectacular as at the World's Strongest Man, i.e. a classic dumbbell was lifted, not a stone one. The competitor takes a large loading dumbbell from the rack behind his head and has to lift it above his head. Whoever can get the heaviest dumbbell over their head wins. It started at 100 kg, but went much higher. Third place Pavel Zadražil 170 kg. The second place went to Lukáš Svoboda and Vojta Kučera, who managed 180 kg. Lukáš Patera took the victory on the discipline with fantastic 200 kg.

Giant dumbbell

The fact that the competition is organized by one of the world's best in this discipline was directly offered to be at the competition. Moreover, this particular implement is the one with which Czech records have been made in the past, it weighs 107 kg in the base and if I put it very politely, it is very erratic and difficult to lift. That's why the only one who took points on this discipline was Lukáš Patera, the others unfortunately didn't get this barbell over their heads, although they were sometimes more, sometimes less close.

Tire flip

The tire flip is another classic strongman discipline, it is even in the logo of the Czech National Strongman Federation. The competitors had to flip a tire weighing 450 kg 6 times during the time limit. Third place Lukáš Svoboda, his time 30,33 seconds. Second place Pavel Zadražil 27,02 seconds. Zdenek Vávra won the discipline with his time of 26,78 seconds.

Atlas Stones

A total of 5 concrete balls ranging in weight from 100 to 160 kg had to be stacked on different high pedestals within the time limit. Another classic of strongman sport. Third place Lukas Svoboda, who stacked the stones in a great 25.05 seconds. Second place Lukáš Patera, who did the same in 23.01 seconds. Vojtěch Kučera was not the fastest, when he stacked the stones in 22.91 seconds, just a hair faster.

The races are over, to be honest, despite the first year in Brandýs, they evoked a certain amount of nostalgia in me. I don't want to offend the competitors, of course, but names like Šleis Rosa, Zadra, Lukáš Svoboda, these are races somewhere around 2015, when these names sounded absolutely common... I'm sure it was a good experience, Lukas and his team with Kuba Sprynar and the Colt Gym did a great job to make the races go as they should, straight... and I'm very happy for that. Maybe next year the repeats will become a nice tradition that Brandýs can host. I say, why not...

Third place was deservedly won by Pavel Zadražil, who collected a total of 30 points. Only half a point more and the second place went to the well prepared Zdeněk Vávra, 30,5 points. Lukáš Patera limped to the victory with 44 points and clearly took the first place. Lukáš thus showed that his great discipline, athletic preparation and not entirely conventional training still work. Congratulations
