New World Record in Log Lift!
September 7, 2024, that's the day records were broken, and not just one but two. Neither has a new holder, but each time the current one has surpassed itself.
On Saturday, the 2024 Giants Live World Tour Open was held in Birmigham, UK, and part of the event, much like what happens in Golcova Jenikova in our home country at the National Championships, was the World Log Lift Championship as the first discipline of the entire event.
The first record that I want to name is not the highest one in the world in general, but it has an amazing value especially for the Czech Republic. The record of 210 kg, as the world junior record was broken by Ondrej Fojtů, who thus surpassed himself. Ondřej has been competing with the most elite top of the world strongman scene for the second year and he has fit in and scores points among the fighters. Now he is the best log lifter under 23.
The next one, the absolute record, followed immediately afterwards. Iron Biby, who is sometimes called Cheick Sanou from Burkina Faso, broke his last year's record by 1 kg and set a new one of 231 kg. For my part, I must say his record is the third in a row, preceded by Zydrunas Savickas who dominated loglifting for more than 10 years at 228 kg. But Iron Biby didn't convince too much with his 229 kg and then 230 kg.
To put it in perspective, his 229 kg attempt was very unconvincing and it looked like the log fell out rather than being thrown in a controlled manner. A year later 230 kg was better, but there were still doubters. This year, I'll be honest, the record was great, the execution, the arm lock, the stance, everything was just exemplary. At the same time, I dare say that at least 235 kg was there. So we'll see next year.
