Strongman Champions League Serbia + Strongest Man in Iceland | Results and reportage
Strongman Champions League Serbia
On May 20, near the Romanian border in Serbia, another SCL event took place in the town of Zrenjanin. There was no eliminations in Serbia this time, so each of the thirteen competitors entered were able to show what they had. They competed in five disciplines. Pulling a 15 tonne truck over 20 metres, Farm walk with 150kg suitcases over 50 metres, while at 25 metres they had to lay down and turn around. Viking press weighing 160 kg in a time limit of one minute. Hercules Hold weighing approximately 150 kg for the longest time. Last was the Super Yoke weighing 425 kg over 25 metres. However, after the first event two competitors, Andy Black and Ervin Toots withdrew from the competition, unfortunately it is not known exactly why, I just hope that if they got injured it will not be serious... Gavin Bilton of Great Britain took gold, Faith Karaca of Turkey took silver and Kevin de Ruiter of the Netherlands finished third.
Strongest Man in Iceland
It was not until the last weekend, on the 3rd of June, that the race to find the strongest man in Iceland took place. Even though the 10-time champion and also the World's Strongest Man for 2018 admitted that he was returning to strength sports, his goal this year was to break the all-time record in the triathlon, he could only watch due to injury. At the same time, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson hinted that he might also return to strongman sports in the future. This year the competitors completed a total of 7 disciplines and that's a lot. The average is usually 5 to 6. A total of 10 competitors competed in the following disciplines. Bags over the bar, a total of 5 bags from 20 to 35 kg at a height of 4.2 meters. Front hold, holding an object in outstretched hands, unfortunately without giving the weight. Deadlift to max, where the winner managed 400 kg. Pulling a 15 ton truck 15 meters. Carrying an anchor mooring pin, just the thing you tie boats to, an estimated 130 kg monster, we carry more like shields, hedgehogs, crosses and the like. The peg was worn for the greatest distance, with the winner managing 40 metres. The last discipline was the Block press medley, where 4 metal blocks weighing 100 - 160 kg were lifted.
Watching it all together like this, I would venture to say that the race organizers are trying to be inventive in the disciplines we have seen in the past. On the other hand, a lot of races still look like there would be a trend in the selection of disciplines. We saw a lot of the Super Yoke, one of the standard and very popular ones, but also the Hercules Hold, popular at the beginning of the storngman sport, which disappeared for a while only to start making a comeback now. The most popular though is the sandbag toss over the bar, not to be outdone, it's a great discipline that can be admired by spectators even further away in the stands or gallery.
