Strongman Champions League Finland + Georgia's Strongest Man + UK's Strongest Man/Woman | Results and reportage

The Poděbrady race is now quiet for about a month, unfortunately it will not take place because the organizers were not able to raise enough money for the race to take place at all. Unfortunately, this also happens and in defence of the whole team of people who prepared the races, I can say that it is not an easy thing to do nowadays. But in a few days the holiday show will start, which counts towards a dozen different domestic races... And there will definitely be something to look forward to.

But before we get to the actual races here at home, we can fill the wait with a little report on what's happening around the world. There have been more of these races since the beginning of May, so I'll get right into it.

Strongman Champions League Finland

The well-known strongman league that is organized across Europe has just started. On May 6, the first SCL competition of the year took place. 12 strongmen from all over the world competed in the western Finnish city of Vaasa. The biggest representation was from Finland, but I can honestly say that they didn't show much. The strongest man for the first SCL event had to go through a total of six disciplines. Frame Carry, which means carrying the fence, in Finland they carried 320 kg of heavy weight, which is not much, but they carried it the maximum distance, so carnage. The winner covered the whole 75 metres in a time limit of 60 seconds. The sack throw, where a total of 5 sacks weighing 20, 24, 27, 30 and 34 kg were thrown over a bar at 4.3 metres in a time limit of 60 seconds. The Loading race, where objects weighing 100, 120 and 140 kg were carried on a platform 10 metres away, the next event was the Hercules Hold weighing 280 kg and the last test of strength was the Viking press weighing 165 kg. The competition was held due to the number of competitors with elimination, where after the bag throwing, the last 4 competitors in the order were always eliminated and did not go any further. The race was won by American Nathan Goltry, the silver went to Andrea Invermizzi, who we may know from our home competitions, and the bronze went to Aivars Šmaukstelis.

The strongest man in Georgia

The race took place on May 7 in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. A total of 6 competitors competed in five disciplines. They were divided into two days, following the model of the big world competitions, but I can add for myself that in our country the races would fit into one afternoon. The strongmen measured their strength in the Axle press for maximum weight, the most overhead the spectators could see at the competitions was 190 kg. Next up was the log lift for reps with 150 kg, which saw 8 reps. 400 kg super yoke for 15 meters, then the SUV deadlift for 20 meters. The whole race then ended with squats with 280 kg on the back, the goal was to get the maximum number of reps. The whole race was dominated by a single competitor, a competitor whose name is very well known and belongs to a small group of the world's top strongman. The winner is none other than Konstantine Janashia, who also defended his title from last year.

UK's Strongest Man

The very next week after Serbia, it was a feast of strongmen in England for a change. Incline Log Ladder, a loglift with an inclined back support, very special, the fighters lifted a total of 5 logs weighing 100 - 180 kg. Silver dollar deadlift, where special extensions are lifted instead of weights, the discipline was for maximum weight, the winner managed 470 kg. Another discipline is very unusual, it is called Bullring wrestling, I would describe it as tug of war over a large steel hoop. Last was the stairs of strength, where two 200 kg weights were carried up five steps. The winner of this event under Ultimate Strongman was Paul Smith.

UK's Strongest Woman

On the same day as the search for the UK's Strongest Man, the same race was held for women, ladies and girls. It was all held in the same city, same hall, equally under the auspices of Ultimate Strongman. The first event for the ladies was carrying a 130kg shield over a 20 metre course for maximum distance, the winner walked over 50 metres. Next was the Block press, that is, lifting a metal block above her head. The block weighed 70 kg and six of the eight competitors scored a zero here, it was just too heavy for them. Next, dragging an 8 tonne van for 20 metres. Deadlift to the max, where the weight went over 200 kg for everyone, and the winner of the discipline even over 300 kg. The last discipline was throwing sandbags over a bar. It was 4 meters high and a total of 5 bags were thrown, weighing from 10 to 18 kg. The strongest woman in Great Britain was Rebecca Roberts.
