Phil Heath goes for his eighth Mr. Olympia title!
Between 2011 and 2017, one man has continuously ruled professional bodybuilding, and that is Phil Heath. With his seven Mr. Olympia titles, he rivaled the phenomenal Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He was one title away from equaling the record held by two legends of the sport, Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman. They each managed to reign the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world for eight years!
In 2018, however, a well-prepared Shawn Rhoden stood in his way, and Phil had to accept defeat!
Last year he did not compete at all, so he gave space to others. When Shawn, who was accused of rape, was unable to defend his title, Brandon Curry was able to rejoice in his Mr. Olympia 2019 title !
Ever since Phil lost his eighth Mr. Olympia title in 2018, all bodybuilding fans have been eager to find out if he would ever come back or end his career quietly, just like he did with Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler.
Over the two years we could hear and read many different scenarios, but Phil himself just quietly stood by and neither confirmed nor denied any of them. But that all changed yesterday!
Phil has finally confirmed via his Instagram that he will return to the competition stage in December to fight for his eighth title at Mr. Olympia 2020!
A short and sweet, yet concise message, powerful not only for Phil Heath fans, but for all bodybuilding fans, pretty much changes what to expect at this year's Mr. Olympia!
But can we even expect a Mr. Olympia contest this year? The USA has been battling, like the rest of the world, the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic for some time now, and it's not looking good over there at all!
The entire Jim Manion IFBB Professional League wason hold for 5 long months, and is only now starting up again. Olympia has therefore been postponed until December.
Also uncertain is the participation of all competitors living outside the United States, as they are very restricted from entering the USA, and nobody really cares about their reasons for doing so!
Hopefully the situation will improve, and the competition can move forward as planned. There is now a very big reason for everyone to turn their attention to the Mr. Olympia 2020 contest!
Can Phil Heath rewrite history? Only time will tell!
