Ostrava bodybuilder goes to prison for 10 years for selling drugs

Ostrava bodybuilder Ales D. goes to prison for 10 years. On Thursday, 20 April, the Regional Court in Ostrava decided on his sentence, based on the indictment, for trafficking in anabolic steroids, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Thirty-six-year-old Ales, who in the 2012 season became the overall winner of the GP Ostrava, GP Jalex Brno and Smartlabs Cup fitness competitions, agreed to the sentence, saying:

"Yes, I feel guilty, I agree with the legal qualification as stated in the lawsuit. I am very sorry for my actions."

He further admitted that he had personal experience with the substances in question, admitting to using them during the trial, saying:

"Specifically to exercise and to burn fat. Anabolics are commonly used in exercise. I only took Pervitin on the weekends."

He was allegedly led to the path of a drug dealer by debts in excess of CZK 1 million. If it hadn't been for them, he said he would never have embarked on this path.

"If I had not got into financial difficulties, I would not have got into such trouble with such a company," he further said in his statement.

In addition to the aforementioned debts, he said he also had to pay alimony for his 10-year-old son, and he was said to be caring for his ailing eighty-two-year-old grandmother.

In addition to Aleš D., his two accomplices also left the court with sentences. The court gave six years to Roman V, who cooked the meth, and eight years to Jiří K. for distribution.
