Oleksii Novikov won World's Ultimate Strongman - Strength Island!
On Saturday, March 13, 2021, the first World Strongman competition of the 2021 season took place. This time the best of the best came to the Middle East to Bahrain to compete in the "Island of Strength" competition. This consisted of five different events that were set up for the athletes. The race was available to watch on CoreSports, Rogue Fitness' YouTube channel, and we have a full race report for you today!
1. Event - Axle Deadlifts
The first event the strongmen had to tackle was the so-called axle deadlift, in which the strongmen had to spring from 320 kg to 440 kg. Not all competitors managed to do that, but the best in this discipline was American Bobby Thompson.
2. Event - Flag Hoist
The second event was not introduced to the competitors until 24 hours before the competition. This time the competitors were tasked with hoisting a flag as quickly and as many times as possible to a height of 50m, which was weighted with a 75kg weight. Luke Stoltman of Scotland was the best performer in this event, managing to produce four repetitions in just under 45 seconds.
3. Event - Giant Dumbbell for Reps
In the third event, the competitors had to move a giant 100kg dumbbell as many times as possible in 75 seconds and then bring it to their head with one hand. The best performer in this event was also the world record holder in this discipline, Ukrainian Oleksii Novikov, who managed to do 10 reps!

4. Event - Carry and Load Medley
In the penultimate event, competitors were expected to carry various loads over a certain distance - a tyre weighing 100kg, an atlas stone weighing 120kg and an iron shield weighing 140kg. The aim was to carry all three objects as quickly as possible to a predetermined platform. The biggest problem some of the strongmen had was with the last object, which was difficult to lift onto the platform due to its shape. However, Oleksii Novikov of Ukraine was again the best performer and secured his second victory!
5. Event - 10 Atlas Stone Run
After four events that took place in a total of around three hours, there was a certain exhaustion on the competitors. However, the last discipline was waiting and the strongmen are real strongmen! The last thing that awaited the competitors was to lift 10 stones weighing 100 - 200kg onto the platform as fast as possible. Tom Stoltman of Scotland managed this best, but it was not enough to win the precious metal.
