John LaFlamme squatted 193.5 kg at the age of 71!
Each of us would like to live a full life in old age, just as we did when we were young. But John LaFlamme shows us that if we take some steps in our lives differently than others, we can still achieve great things in old age and persuade our old bodies to work for a while.
John has been doing powerlifting for 44 years. He began competing when he was 27 years old and made his debut in 1978 at the AAU Maine State Powerlifting Championships. That began a long and successful career that has kept LaFlamme strong.

On February 26, 2022, the 71-year-old John LaFlamme made his third attempt in the squat class up to 83 kilograms with 193.5 kilograms (426.6 pounds).
This was the heaviest squat of the performances at the event. He also pushed 105 kg (231.5 lb) on the bench press and pulled 215 kg (474 lb) on the deadlift. It took LaFlamme three attempts to complete this deadlift. That was enough to win the competition. He weighed a total of 513.5 kg (1,132.1 lb) throughout the show.
