Fast and effective exercise for women: 10 tips to keep fit when you have little time
10 tips to keep fit when you're short on time
Sometimes there are days when you feel like the world is spinning faster than it should and finding time to workout seems like an insurmountable task. Between work responsibilities, caring for family, and other daily tasks, it can be hard to make room to go to the gym or engage in longer workouts. But just because you sometimes don't get to the gym doesn't mean you have to skip exercise altogether. On the contrary, it's during these hectic times that it can be crucial to find ways to keep yourself moving regularly despite limited time. Exercise doesn't always have to be about long hours spent in the gym. There are effective methods to incorporate physical activity into your busy daily schedule. The goal is to find simple, quick and customizable ways to keep fit and boost your health without sacrificing time and energy.
I'd like to share with you some practical and quick tips that you can incorporate into your daily routine. These tips will not only help you stay fit, but also bring joy and energy to your days. Especially during times when you feel overwhelmed, it's important to have simple and effective strategies on hand to stay active. Every little step counts, and with these tips, you'll be able to take advantage of every moment you have and reach your fitness goals even in the busyness of life.

1. Replace an hour-long HIIT workout with a workout
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and is perfect for those of you that only have maybe 15 minutes or 30 minutes to spare for exercise. So it's a short intense workout, but it delivers great results! How does HIIT work? You do several exercise rounds (i.e. intervals) of very intense exercises that last, for example, 20-40 seconds, followed by a short break after each round, for example, 10-20 seconds. Each time you exercise you try to put maximum effort into a particular exercise. In conjunction with the short breaks, the body works at full capacity, resulting in efficient calorie burning and improved cardiovascular fitness. Thus, HIIT is an effective method because of the time saving, calorie burning and fitness improvement.
Example of HIIT workout:
30 s squat with lunge
10 s rest
30 s push-ups
10 s rest
30 s jumping jacks
10 s rest
30 s climber
+ 1 minute break between rounds and you go to the next one. This way you practice for a certain number of minutes that you have room for.
2. Stay up 20 minutes
If your day starts early and you're busy after work, try taking a nap just 20 minutes earlier. You can use this short time for a quick and effective workout that will energize you for the day. Your morning workout can include a short HIIT series - for example, 3 exercises in 4 rounds, which will only take a few minutes but effectively get your whole body moving. If you prefer a calmer start, try morning yoga. A few simple poses will help you stretch and strengthen your body while waking up your mind.
Another option is a quick run or walk in the fresh air. Even 20 minutes outdoors can do wonders for your fitness and mental well-being. Find an activity that suits you and rotate it calmly to keep your morning exercise varied and fun.
3. Exercise in the evening after work
If you're not a morning person and exercise fits you better in the evening, include a quick workout in your evening routine. After work, allow yourself a moment to yourself and focus on movement that you enjoy while helping you relieve stress. For example, try circuit training, which is great for a full-body workout. You can adapt it depending on how often you plan to exercise - focus on your upper body one day, your lower body the next, or your whole body every day.
If you prefer to spend time outdoors, incorporate an evening run, bike ride, or skate into your routine. These activities will not only help you stay fit, but they're also great for clearing your head after a hard day.

4. Take advantage of the weekend
If you struggle to find time to exercise during the week, try using the weekend for longer and more intense exercise. Plan activities that you enjoy and involve your family to spend time together. This could be a longer run, a bike ride, or a family outing to an interesting hike. Alternatively, go to the gym for a longer workout that you can't fit in during the week.
During the weekdays, focus on shorter, effective workouts, and on the weekend, engage in a longer sporting activity to help you stay fit and recharge for the week.
5. Use your TV time effectively
Looking forward to your favourite show and don't want to miss it for exercise? Combine the pleasant with the useful! You can get a cardio machine such as a treadmill, exercise bike or stepper and work out while watching TV. Exercise will go by faster when you have fun watching your favourite programme, and at the same time you will meet your exercise goal.
If you don't want to invest in a cardio machine, just set up a mat and choose simple exercises that you can do right in front of the TV.
6. Try to limit elevators, car, public transport and more
If you have a busy schedule and find it hard to find time to exercise, try incorporating more movement into your daily life. Instead of using the elevator, take the stairs on foot. Even a small change like this can have a positive impact on your health and fitness. Similarly, you can reduce your use of the car or public transport and replace it with walking or cycling if possible. These activities will not only help you burn calories, but will also improve your stamina and overall physical fitness without having to find extra time to exercise.
7. Set realistic goals and track your progress
It's important to set small, realistic goals that are achievable even on hectic days. Instead of setting ambitious goals that can be demotivating, focus on specific and achievable steps. For example, instead of aiming to "lose 5kg in a month", you could set a goal to "exercise 15 minutes a day" or "do 3 HIIT workouts a week". These small goals are easier to meet and help keep you motivated.
Additionally, using a journal or apps to track your progress allows you to see how you are improving, which is key to staying motivated. You can record not only the number of hours you exercise, but also how you feel, what exercise you enjoy and how your fitness is changing. Apps can offer graphs, statistics and other tools to visualize your progress and help you stay on track.
8. Using short breaks during the day
Even during the workday, you can use short breaks for quick workouts. For example, squats, lunges, or a few minutes of stretching can easily be incorporated into your day. These short breaks can improve blood circulation, increase energy, and improve focus.
Regular short exercises throughout the day have a positive effect on health and keeping fit. They can help reduce stress levels, increase productivity and improve your overall well-being. Even short walks several times a day can have significant health benefits and contribute to your long-term health.

9. Exercise with children
Exercising with children can be a great way to combine family time and physical activity. You can include simple exercises such as jumping jacks, squats, or running competitions. Children often like to imitate adults and exercise can be fun and motivating for them.
By engaging children in exercise, you not only increase their physical activity, but you also establish positive role models and encourage healthy habits in children. Exercising together strengthens family bonds and provides an opportunity to spend time together in an active and healthy way.
10. Create a supportive community
Joining a supportive community, whether it's a group of friends, family, or an online community focused on exercise, can have a significant impact on your motivation and success in exercising regularly. When you surround yourself with people who have similar goals and interests, you not only gain support, but also inspiration and new ideas on how to exercise effectively and enjoyably.
How to find a community?
Online groups and forums - there are many online groups and forums dedicated to fitness and health where you can share your progress, get tips and find support. For example, Facebook groups, Reddit communities or fitness apps often have features that allow you to communicate and share experiences.
Fitness apps - Some fitness apps allow you to create and join teams or groups where you can compete with others or provide encouragement to each other.
Local fitness groups - if you prefer face-to-face contact, try joining local fitness groups or clubs where you can work out with other people who have similar goals. Many cities have running clubs, yoga groups or other sports activities that are open to all levels.
What are the benefits of shared motivation?
Accountability - When you commit to regular exercise as part of a group or team, you feel more accountable to others. This can be a powerful motivator to help you overcome laziness or lack of motivation.
Inspiration and new ideas - community support can bring you new exercise ideas, techniques and routines that you might not have discovered on your own. The experiences of others can help you find new ways to exercise effectively and keep you interested in the activity.
Emotional support - sharing successes as well as challenges with others can be a great motivator. Positive feedback and encouragement from others can boost your confidence and determination.
With each small step you take toward regular exercise, you are moving closer to better physical and mental health. It's important to see exercise as a natural part of life, not just another obligation. When exercise becomes a habit, incorporating it into your busy schedule becomes more natural.
Be inspired by what exercise brings you and find joy in every moment of movement. You'll not only get fitter, but you'll also gain a new way to deal with everyday stress and strengthen your relationships with others. Exercise can be a path to self-discovery and personal growth, even in the busiest times of life.
