Shawn Ray brutally wrote off Walker: "He just doesn't have the title!"

Bodybuilding legend and respected commentator Shawn Ray has stirred the waters once again. In his latest, and it has to be said very controversial, prediction, he takes aim at one of the biggest favorites for the upcoming Mr. Olympia - Nick "The Mutant" Walker. According to Ray, Walker won 't even crack the top five in 2025 and will finish as high as eighth place.

This bold prediction immediately sparked a wave of controversy. Why would one of the world's most massive and best-prepared bodybuilders end up so deep in the field?

Nick Walker

The argument against "The Mutant".

In his analysis, Shawn Ray doesn't deny what everyone sees: Nick Walker is a monster with an incredible amount of muscle mass and can come in brutal, rock solid shape. But the problem, according to Ray, lies elsewhere - in his body structure.

Ray claims that Walker's physique is too "blocky" and lacks the sleek, classic lines that he says judges currently favor. He compares him to bodybuilders like Samson Dauda or Andrew Jacked, who have a more aesthetically pleasing physiques with narrow waists and broad shoulders.

"Nick is a phenomenon when it comes to muscle. He's a 'freak'. But bodybuilding at the highest level is about overall impression, illusion and structure," Ray suggested.

Walker can win smaller competitions, he said, but on the Mr. Olympia stage, where he stands next to more genetically endowed opponents, his structural deficiencies stand out.

Walker's strength: Matter against aesthetics

This critique is not new. Aware that his character is not the prototype of the classic era, Nick Walker builds his strategy on something else: stunning muscle mass, hardness and detail that few can match. His accomplishments speak for themselves:

  • Winning the Arnold Classic.
  • Third place at Mr. Olympia 2022.
  • Winner of the People's Champion Fan Award.

After a forced hiatus in 2023 due to injury, Walker returns hungrier than ever to prove that his brute strength and conditioning can beat any aesthetic "disadvantage."

Shawn Ray's prediction isn't just about one bodybuilder. It's a commentary on the current direction of the entire Open category. Will the judges favor aesthetics and symmetry, or will they still be impressed by pure, uncompromising muscle mass?

Nick Walker has a clear task ahead of him: silence the critics and prove that his "mass monster" path is still the path to the Mr. Olympia title. We'll see if Shawn Ray was right, or if he'll have to take back his words when he takes the stage in Las Vegas. One thing is for sure, it's going to be a thrilling show.
