Lee Priest Revealed the Two Biggest Disappointments of the Olympia! And He Explained Why Nick Walker Managed to Silence Everyone!
Mr. Olympia 2026 delivered one of the biggest stories in recent years! Despite critics’ doubts, Nick Walker won his first title and definitively cemented his place among bodybuilding legends. Former professional bodybuilder Lee Priest has now explained what he believes was behind Walker’s incredible triumph. He also named two competitors who disappointed him the most at this year’s Mr. Olympia. And his assessment was definitely not very forgiving!
Nick Walker silenced everyone! Lee Priest revealed the secret to his success
Nick Walker has had a season he’ll likely never forget. After finishing sixth at last year’s Mr. Olympia—a result many considered a major setback—he managed to come back stronger than ever. At this year’s Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas, he was in the best shape of his life, defeating Samson Dauda and defending champion Derek Lunsford to win the prestigious Sandow Trophy for the first time in his career.
According to Lee Priest, however, his victory wasn’t driven solely by extreme muscle mass or perfect competition form. Mental toughness was the deciding factor!
In a recent video released on October 17, the Australian bodybuilding legend spoke about Walker’s ability to overcome setbacks and ignore negative comments. She highlighted the fact that many fans and experts had previously doubted whether Walker would ever be able to win the Mr. Olympia title.
However, the American bodybuilder did not let that deter him.
“If you have mental toughness and the will to keep going, you can achieve incredible things,” Priest explained.
According to him, Walker never stopped believing that one day he would reach the top. And this year’s victory is proof that determination can be extremely important in the long run.

Martin Fitzwater? Priest expected much more!
Lee Priest, however, didn’t focus solely on the winner. During his assessment of this year’s Mr. Olympia, he also named two competitors whose performances disappointed him the most. The first was Martin Fitzwater, whom he expected to be in the top six!
The American bodybuilder had appeared very confident leading up to the competition and regularly posted photos of his current physique on social media. According to Priest, those photos suggested that Fitzwater could be one of the most dangerous competitors in the entire contest.
The reality, however, was completely different.
While he managed to place fifth in 2025, this year he plummeted all the way to twelfth place.
“When I saw Martin’s photos before the competition, I expected much more. I thought he’d be in the running for a top-six finish,” Priest admitted.
At the same time, however, he emphasized that he doesn’t know exactly what went wrong during Fitzwater’s preparation or final conditioning phase. According to him, it’s simply one of the unpredictable aspects of professional bodybuilding. Even excellent form a few weeks before a competition doesn’t automatically guarantee that a competitor will be able to bring that same quality to the stage itself.
Derek Lunsford Lost His Title! Priest Didn’t Hold Back on Criticism
According to Priest, the second major disappointment was defending champion Derek Lunsford. The two-time Mr. Olympia arrived in Las Vegas with a clear goal: to win the world’s most prestigious bodybuilding competition for the third time and cement his place among the greatest competitors in history. But Nick Walker and Samson Dauda had other plans.
Lunsford ultimately finished in third place and lost his long-awaited title defense!
Priest did acknowledge, however, that the American bodybuilder didn’t look bad. According to him, the problem lay primarily in the exceptionally strong competition. Walker competed in the best shape of his life, while Dauda managed to significantly improve his physique compared to previous competitions. And in such a field, Priest says, even the slightest shortcoming can make all the difference.
“Derek still looked good. But when Nick shows up in such great shape and Samson improves so much, all it takes is a slight dip in form and you immediately fall behind,” he explained .
According to the Australian legend, Lunsford was likely among the competitors who were most disappointed with their results.
However, his assessment was not unanimously shared by all experts. Lunsford’s coach, Chris Aceto, for example, stated that, in his opinion, his client had one of the best levels of definition at the competition. At the same time, however, he acknowledged Walker’s extraordinary muscle mass and did not dispute the victory itself.
The most important muscle? According to Priest, it’s all in the mind!
The most interesting part of Priest’s assessment, however, ultimately had nothing to do with a specific result, but rather with professional bodybuilders’ attitude toward failure. According to the former competitor, many athletes never reach their true potential because they lack sufficient belief in their own abilities.
And Nick Walker, he says, is the perfect example of someone who refused to give up on his goal!
Although he faced criticism, unsuccessful competitions, and doubts about his physique throughout his career, he continued to work on his physique. In the end, he achieved exactly what many didn’t believe he could. His journey, however, was not an easy one. After placing sixth at the 2025 Olympia, he had to reevaluate his training, work on his weaknesses, and return to the top. The result was a historic triumph that capped off one of the most remarkable transformations of recent years.
Priest’s message is therefore simple. Physical attributes are important, but without patience, determination, and the ability to handle setbacks, even immense talent can go untapped.
What lies ahead for the world’s best bodybuilders?
This year’s Mr. Olympia significantly shifted the balance of power in professional bodybuilding. Nick Walker became champion for the first time, Samson Dauda cemented his place among the absolute elite, and Derek Lunsford will have to find his way back to the top. The future of Martin Fitzwater also remains uncertain; after a disappointing performance, he’ll want to prove that he still has a place among the world’s best bodybuilders. Fans’ attention is now slowly shifting to the 2027 Arnold Classic, which will take place in early March in Columbus.
One thing, however, is certain, according to Lee Priest. Nick Walker showed this year that a true champion is defined not only by his physique, but also by his ability to overcome obstacles that might stop other competitors.
And if he can maintain that same determination in future seasons, his reign over the world of bodybuilding may be just beginning!
