Larry Wheels and a career in slapping: the current champion knocked him out!
Larry Wheels is one of the absolute legends of our sport. And even though he recently announced that we won't be seeing him on a bodybuilding competition stage anytime soon, he's certainly not about to quit the sport. Now he's picked one not quite traditional - in a faction against the reigning champion. And how did he do? Well, we can tell you in advance, not very well.
Larry Wheels isn't just a bodybuilder. He tries a whole plethora of other activities and is a truly versatile athlete. In a recently released video, however, he attempts to engage in a discipline that is slightly bizarre to say the least - the so-called Power Slap, which involves giving your opponent the strongest slap possible. He didn't choose an easy opponent though, as he's up against reigning super heavyweight champion Layne Viernes.
"I think it's a hundred percent that I'm going to get knocked out. This guy is like 400 pounds and he's the super heavyweight champion. But I told him not to hold back.So when he knocks me out, I'm hoping Ryan and a couple of other guys will help me keep my head from hitting the floor, "
he said ahead of the fight with the much more powerful opponent. Behind Power Slap is Dana White, who most of you probably know from the prestigious UFC organization. This time, however, the rules are much simpler - the aim of the contest is to hit your opponent with an open palm, with the judging being how you hit your opponent and how your opponent takes it. During the aforementioned video, which is over 40 minutes long, Larry was first given instructions on how to actually warm up and how to hit his opponent correctly.
When Larry came up with the first punch, his opponent didn't even flinch. Then, when Layne Viernes showed his power in practice, he sent Larry to the ground with a single punch on a pre-prepared mat that cushioned his fall.

And since Larry Wheels probably isn't going to focus on bodybuilding or power triathlon right now, he may well find slapping an interesting alternative. And who knows, maybe in a few months he'll be winning competitions in that sport as well. With Larry, we wouldn't be surprised at all.
