Hafthor Björnsson Discusses the Doping Rules at the Enhanced Games in Detail: What He Was Allowed to Take and What He Had to Stop Taking Before His Next Attempt!
Hafthor Björnsson revealed that even the controversial organization Enhanced Games, which openly permits doping, has its own unexpected rules. Before his recent attempt to break the world record in the deadlift with a weight of 515 kg, the popular “Thor” had to significantly change his plan for using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
In a recent interview (June 25, 2026), Björnsson admitted that when he first signed up to compete in the Enhanced Games, he thought he had complete freedom. The organization is known for not adhering to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules and for promoting a “medically supervised” approach to doping.
“When I first signed up, I thought to myself: These are the Enhanced Games—I can take whatever I want; that’s great,” Thor said . “But after talking with my agent and the organizers, I found out that only substances approved by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) are allowed. I had to adjust my regimen a bit, because I used to take substances that aren’t approved.”

What did he have to cut out, and what was allowed?
Björnsson was very open about what he had to cut out before stepping onto the platform. According to Enhanced Games rules, he had to stop using substances like Dianabol, trenbolone, and Equipoise because they didn’t meet FDA approval criteria.
On the other hand, his permitted protocol could include substances such as testosterone, Deca-Durabolin, Anadrol, and small amounts of Halotestin. This clearly shows that although Enhanced Games allows doping, it is by no means without limits or rules.
The Quest for 515 kg Continues
These rules directly affected Thor’s preparation for the recent 2026 Enhanced Games Deadlift Showdown. In the competition, he successfully lifted 425 kg, then 475 kg, and subsequently attempted the magical 515 kg. Although he lifted the bar off the ground, he was unable to fully complete the lift. His previous record of 510 kg (set in Birmingham in 2025) thus remains the valid all-time record.
But Thor’s quest doesn’t end there. His next opportunity to push the limits will come on July 11, 2026, in Los Angeles at the Enhanced Breakers event. After a successful 485 kg training lift and a narrow failure at the previous event, Thor (and his coaching team) are convinced that the 515 kg record will fall this year.
