Cbum surprises with who he considers his biggest rival for Olympia!
Classic physique is undoubtedly one of the most attractive categories of bodybuilding and the truth is that at the moment it is literally packed with great bodybuilders. When Chris Bumstead, who has dominated the category since 2019, stirred up speculation about his departure some time ago, his replacements immediately started making their presence known. But just a few months ago, it looked like Urs Kalecinski and Ramon Queiroz in particular would be grinding their teeth for the Olympia title. But a few races and everything is different.
The likeable Wesley Vissers appeared on the scene, first winning the Arnold Classic Ohio and then adding a second professional victory at the following Arnold Classic UK. Now, when Cbum was on Prime Time Muscle and it came to his main rival for the upcoming Olympia, he named Wesley.
"Wesley was obviously a bit of a surprise to everyone. I was watching the morning prejudging for the Arnold Classic and I was like holy shit, he's going to win it. I never thought it would go like this. But that's what happens in Classic Physique because because of the weight limit set, competitors can come in at any time and surprise you quite a bit. You never know," Cbum opened his train of thought.
However, he also went on to suggest that Wesley's win changes everything and will therefore have to be reckoned with at Olympia:
"Anything can happen really and I think Wesley's arrival has shuffled the cards a lot. I don't think this year will be a battle between the top two like last year with me and Ramon. We could be four, anything can happen. Everything is changing and everything is getting mixed up," said the reigning champion.
And although this may have made Cbum look a little uncertain, he has of course added a more positive outlook for the future and believes he can still give all his opponents a good beating. At the same time, he spoke again about his future, hinting that he would like to win the same amount of Mr. Olympia titles that Arnold Schwarzenegger or Phil Heath have collected.
"I'll definitely be back. But I always take it year by year. I always take time off after winning the Olympia, come back down to earth and see if it's still in me, if I still have the drive and the passion. And right now, I definitely still feel it. If I win now and then I'm still in that kind of mood, I'll be on the same number of titles as Arnold Schwarzenegger or Phil Heath, which would be great. But like I said, I'll take it one year at a time."
Although we'll have to wait a few more months for the Olympia and we probably won't see Cbum competing anywhere else, it's already more than clear that we can look forward to a great spectacle from these athletes.
