"Cbum in the open is not that good," says Lee Priest after EVLS
In a recent YouTube interview posted on November 18, 2024, former professional bodybuilder Lee Priest expressed his opinion on Chris Bumstead's participation in the Open category at the EVLS Prague Pro 2024.
Priest stated that many fans still judged Bumstead's physique from the perspective of the Classic Physique category, which may have affected their perception of his performance in the Open category. He literally said:
"People say, 'He should have won. He should have won.' No, he's a Classic! It's like if Martin had gone to Classic, he wouldn't have won because of different criteria."
Further, Priest pointed out that Bumstead's stature in the Open category was not as impressive as it might seem. He stated:
"Look, Bumstead looks great, yes, because everyone is still looking at him through the eyes of the Classic. As an Open bodybuilder, I'm sorry, he's not that good."
Priest also suggested that if Bumstead were competing against established Open category competitors like Samson Dauda or Andrew Jacked, his physique might not be as competitive. He advised Bumstead to stay in his specialty: "Stay in your lane."
This criticism comes on the heels of Bumstead's retirement announcement after winning his sixth Classic Physique title at Mr. Olympia 2024, after which he decided to compete in the EVLS Prague Pro in the Open category.
