Big Ramy will compete at Mr. Olympia 2020!
Author: The most powerful professional bodybuilder of our time, Egyptian colossus Mamdouh "Big Ramy" Elssbiay, had planned to qualify for this year's Mr. Olympia competition.
However, he had to settle for 3rd place, for which he received "only" a few points in the qualification ranking.
These points were not enough for him to qualify, so he wanted to compete at the 2020 Europa Pro Championships in Spain on 11 October.
However, as we all know very well, he was unfortunately unable to compete as he tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Spain !
Although he was overwhelmed by this fact, he had to accept it unwillingly.
I am devastated by this news because it is completely out of the question, and this is the second preparation I have had to interrupt because of this virus ...
I have been stuck in Dubai for 5 months after the cancellation of the Arnold Classic Australia, and right now another great chance to qualify for Mr. Olympia has disappeared right before my eyes.
So it seemed like a moment of leisure was ahead, and then the struggle to qualify for Mr. Olympia 2021. But yesterday, a very pleasant news has been circulating the bodybuilding world.
The organizers of Olympia Weekend decided to give "Big Ramy" a special invitation to participate in this year's Mr. Olympia 2020!
Olympia Weekend President Dan Solomon explains:
The challenges of 2020 have affected us all in many ways. After taking a close look at the exceptional circumstances, we all agreed that he would have qualified for the event had he not tested positive for the virus. Fans want to see the best in the world on the Olympia stage, and Ramy will be an exciting addition to this year's lineup!
IFBB Professional League President Jim Manion adds:
This year has been marked by some extraordinary circumstances for our sport. We are proud to offer Big Ramy this special invitation and look forward to welcoming the best athletes in the world to Las Vegas in December!
This makes Big Ramy a real threat to Phil Heath and Brandon Curry in the fight for the Mr. Olympia title in 2020!
