Arnold Classic 2018 - results

This year's season of Jim Manion's IFBB professional league has just begun. On March 2-3, another edition of the multisport event called Arnold Sports Festival took place, which includes one of the longest running competitions, the Arnold Classic.

Arnold Classic in bodybuilding OPEN:

The first edition of the Arnold Classic, co-founded by the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger, took place in 1989, making this year's event the 30th anniversary edition. For this reason, the organizers decided to invite all the previous champions to the stage. However, there was one missing among them, namely the 1999 champion Nasser El Sonbaty, who died almost exactly five years ago.

So they gradually came together on stage:
Rich Gaspari (1989), Mike Ashley (1990), Shawn Ray (1991), Vince Taylor(1992), Flex Wheeler (1993, 1997, 1998, 2000), Kevin Levrone (1994, 1996), Michael Francois (1995), Nasser El Sonbaty (1999), Ronnie Coleman (2001), Jay Cutler (2002, 2003, 2004), Dexter Jackson (2005, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2015), Victor Martinez (2007), Kai Greene (2009, 2010, 2016), Branch Warren (2011, 2012), Dennis Wolf (2014) and Cedric McMillan ( 2017).

Apart from the aforementioned fighters, of course, there were also those who sought to triumph at this spectacular competition. Among the 14 fighters there were also those who have already won this legendary competition, namely last year's winner Cedric McMillan, the winner of the 2014 edition Dennis Wolf and Dexter Jackson, who with his five victories indelibly made the history of this competition.

Although the aforementioned trio of McMillan, Jackson and Wolf was expected to be the winner of the 30th anniversary edition of the competition, fate would have it otherwise. The favourites were certainly the monstrous Roelly Winklaar, or William Bonac, also possessing a great amount of muscle mass. It was the latter who deservedly dominated the competition.

William took the stage more powerful than he was last season. His musculature was full, round and there was no part that was particularly lagging behind.

Second place went to Dexter Jackson, who really wasn't at his best. He was noticeably tired, his movement on stage was rather cumbersome, and his abdominal muscle control was below average. If he had appeared even lower on the results list, surely no one, not even himself, could have objected.

Third place went to last year's winner , Cedric McMillan. It was he who could surely have placed ahead of Dexter. But you'd be hard pressed to find any sorrow or dissatisfaction on his face. He accepted his loss with a sense of self-respect.

Fourth was another monster, Roelly Winklaar. He worked on controlling his abdominal muscles, which resulted in the illusion of a narrower waist. Although his form was great during the semifinals, it declined very quickly as time went on.

Steve Kuclo still squeezed into the top 5, a very good result for him.

Our Lukas Osladil also took part in the competition. This time, however, he scored only the ninth place. Although he presented perfect symmetry on the stage, and his free line-up was one of the best that could be seen at the competition, but he fell far short of his reputed sharpness.

Among the other competitors, let's mention the twelfth place Dennis Wolf. The German fighter certainly expected a better result after a two-year competition break, but neither his form nor the amount of muscle mass allowed him to go higher.

Arnold Classic in bodybuilding up to 212 lbs:

The fifth edition of the Arnold Classic 212 brought some interesting moments.

There were only seven fighters on the podium. Eight of them received an invitation, but due to visa problems Iranian Hadi Choopan could not come.

The biggest fight was expected to be between Jose Raymond and David Henry. Jose managed to dominate this event in 2015, while David can boast of winning the Olympia 202 Showdown in 2008.

Neither of them, however, offered a form worthy of a champion, and the victory could be enjoyed by someone completely different, absolutely unexpected. Kamal Elgargni, in his professional debut, took the triumph.
He was led to the triumph by a very attractive physique together with top preparation, especially in front and rear stands. In the rear ones he dominated with an incredibly sculpted lower back.
Kamal's only weakness was his slightly more subtle quadriceps. However, this is rather due to age.

Second place went to Charles Dixon, who presented really brutal volumes here. Besides, he offered excellent final preparation and a lot of detail by his standards.

The form of Samir Troudi, who finished third, was also a surprise. In fact, he offered the absolute best balance of character across the entire starting field.

Fourth and fifth place were shared by the aforementioned David Henry and Jose Raymond. Both fighters have some flaws in their characters, which they have to compensate for with their excellent final preparation. However, neither of them had it this time.

Sixth and seventh place went to Guy Cisternino and Kyung Won Kang. They were rather outnumbered here, although they have the potential to be much better, which they have already proved in the past. This time, however, they were very subtle and without the necessary finishing touches.

RESULTS:

1. Kamal Elgargni- qualified for Olympia 212 Showdown 2018
2. Charles Dixon

4. David Henry
