Dry extract from the aerial part of the plant Cichorium intybus (Chicory ). It contains at least 8 % flavonoids determined as apigenin, 10 % coumarins determined as esculin and at least 5 % tannin compounds determined as tannin. In addition, it contains a number of other biologically active substances, such as the coumarin glycosides cichoriin and esculetin, and others. The effects of these substances are related to the activity and protection of the liver, the activity and condition of the gall bladder, and the promotion of digestion and appetite.
The liver can be damaged by chemicals, antibiotics, excessive consumption of junk food, alcohol or drugs, or various infections.
