Instructions for use Uro-C-Kontrol, test strips
Using Uro-C-Kontrol:
- URO C-KONTROL® in vitro medical device test strips are used for the indicative determination of the concentration of ascorbic acid in urine. The test result is evaluated by a physician.
- Mechanism of action: The test provides indicative information on possible ascorbic acid deficiency in the body and its extent. The method is based on the action of a complex chelating agent with a polyvalent metal ion and a colour indicator, which reacts proportionally to the concentration of ascorbic acid by changing the colour shade. The test strips consist of a plastic carrier on which one indicator zone is fixed.
- The package contains 4 test strips in primary protective packaging (bag) and the enclosed instructions for use.
- Procedure for urine collection: collect urine into a dry and clean collection container. Do not strain the urine. Mix the sample well before testing. Urine analysis must be performed immediately. Urine samples must always be obtained and maintained under hygienic conditions.
- To perform the test: Remove the strip from the package immediately before use. Do not touch the reagent zone of the strips with your hands. Place the strip vertically in the urine to be tested for 1-2 seconds to ensure that the zone is wetted with urine. The reagent zone of the strip can also be adjusted to the midstream of the urine. Wipe the strip with the edge of the collection container to remove excess urine. Place the strip on a horizontal, clean, dry and absorbent pad. After 30 seconds, assess the colour of the reagent zone by comparing it with the colour scale on the packaging. Artificial lighting may cause distortion of the test. One test strip cannot be reused.
- Result and explanation of its meaning: A scale is provided on the packaging against which the colour of the test strip is compared half a minute after soaking in fresh urine. The scale indicates the vitamin C levels of 1, 10, 20, 50 and 100 mg/dl. The ideal level of vitamin C is 100 mg/dl. It is marked in yellow on the scale. This indicates that the physiological requirements of the body for antioxidant capacity and biochemical reactions (e.g. at the level of the immune, nervous and cardiovascular systems), in which ascorbic acid enters, are being satisfied. In the case of vitamin C deficiency, as indicated by green colour values, it is advisable to increase the daily intake of vitamin C.
- Limitations and possible errors: The daily urinary intake of ascorbic acid depends on the physiological requirements of the body for the protective antioxidant capacity and biochemical reactions involving ascorbic acid, and the daily intake must be adequate to meet these requirements. If the urine is too dilute, the sample may not contain sufficient ascorbic acid. For this reason, it is advisable to collect and test the first urine of the morning, where the concentration of each component is usually highest and stable. The effect of drugs or their metabolites on ascorbic acid content has not yet been fully elucidated. The sensitivity of the test may be affected by variations in urine composition during the day. As with all diagnostic tests, a definitive diagnosis should not be made on the basis of a single test, but should be made solely by a physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated.
- Disposal: Pour the urine tested into a toilet bowl and flush. Dispose of empty containers and used strip in municipal waste.
Reagents:
1 test strip with chelating agent, polyvalent metal ion and colour indicator.
Health protection: The product does not contain toxic substances. Personal hygiene must be observed when carrying out the test.
