Guarana
Paullinia cupana, commonly known as guarana, is a climbing plant native to the Amazon. Guarana is most sought after as a natural stimulant and is now included in almost all energy drinks. This is because guarana seeds contain many times more caffeine than coffee beans. The onset of effects is slower, but in turn the physical and mental vitality you get from guarana lasts much longer. This makes it very popular with endurance athletes, drivers, students or executives

Caffeine
The most well-known food in which caffeine occurs naturally is the much-loved coffee. Caffeine can also be found in tea leaves, cocoa beans, guarana and kola nuts. It is interesting to note the half-life of caffeine, which can range from 3 to 7 hours. This can be influenced by a number of factors such as genetic predisposition, form of caffeine or dietary composition.

Pasteurisation in a nutshell
The process of pasteurisation is based on the heat treatment of food and the ratio of temperature to time that the food is exposed to this temperature, which causes the destruction of unwanted micro-organisms. Unlike overcooking, it does not significantly alter the quality of the food.
