Triathlete Amanda Kohatsu Wins Women's Physique and Open Figure Divisions at NPC Iron Games
Doing power triathlon and being successful on the bodybuilding competition stage is a challenge, but one that Amanda Kohatsu has managed to tackle. This powerlifter started powerlifting in 2016 at the United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Southern California Open, where she was able to take second place. Despite her short career, she has managed to win several valuable metals
- 2019 USPA Lock it Out Barbell Desert Wars -first place
- 2019 Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) Super Training Classic -first place
- 2017 USPA National Powerlifting Championships -third place
- 2017 USPA Orange County Deadlift Classic - second place
- 2017 USPA California State Powerlifting Championships -first place
- 2016 USPA Southern California Open - second place
However, Amanda had to stop her participation in the race in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, Amanda's gym was closed and she gained weight... But she finally decided to build a gym at home.
The weight started to come off and I was motivated to get in better shape before returning to powerlifting. I thought I might try competing in the physique division!
Amanda was helped to put her plan into action by her husband Tee Popoola, who has been a bodybuilding competitor and coach for 18 years. He mainly had to change his wife's training because her muscular physique would not fit into the "figure category". Amanda's training included progressive overload with single-joint exercises and machine exercises.
In the end, everything worked out and Kohatsu won both Women's Physique and Open Figure!
